I spent most of Saturday sorting out the VFR, I drained the tank, filled her with unleaded and fired her up, on the button first go. Mmmmm Honda

So that was impressive…..

I got on the thing and took it up to my mum’s house where I’m going to keep it for a while.
I’d forgot how good that bike is, compared to the ZX7R I enjoyed it just as much I think, the acceleration is awesome, once up into the rev range she sang like never before on the way there.
I think I know understand why some characteristics stand out more than others no matter what the capacity.

The Kwak is worth over £4000, I bought her for £3500, I am thinking about selling the Kwak and keeping the VFR whilst looking for another bargain, this could be the start of a buying and selling streak as I would have the money from the Ninja.
I guess I could pay off a large chunk of my loan if I do well.

What happens with the insurance then? I get rid of the Kwak but my policy is for 12 months, can they halt it until I get another machine or do you have to continue paying until you have the next bike?

Cheers..

Killa

If it's a 12 month policy, they'll ask for the money wont they?

I would have thought you will have trouble selling a zx7 for that sort of price. May be lucky, but for that sort of money you can get a lot of technically 'better' bikes - for similar money I've seen a B1 636 with £1k worth of extras and 4000 miles - all in all a much faster 'funner' bike as such.

I think you and me both know that is bull....

I don't mean the price of the other Kwak.

For example, you pay for a 12 month policy, you use 6 months, you may get back perhaps 10-20% of the total premium. It depends on which company.

You will never win on the insurance front. They will give you much less back than what you pay. In some cases, like mine, it was going to cost ME money to remove a bike from the policy due to getting a discount for 2 bikes when the policy started.

IIRC you can only buy/sell 6 vehicles for profit a year before the Inland Revenue will want a portion for income tax. That could have all changed.

To be perfectly honest, I suspect that the odd £100 profit you make here and there won't be worth the time/effort involved.

I do not think that is 'bull'.
I said it because I think you will find it hard to sell a zx7r for £4k because you can get a much 'better' bike for the same money. Seems to make sense to me.
I might, of course, be wrong, but that's how I view the situation.

No, isn't really isn't bull mate. You'd need to find someone with their heart absolutely set on a zx7r (the sort that would ignore other, cheaper, fast, better handling bikes instead for the same price). Be interested to see if you could actually sell it for that though! Smile

There certainly are people who prefer the looks and performance of the ZX7R, I wouldn’t by a Gixxer 600 for example because on the track is a few seconds faster. The ZX7R is a good road bike, I’m sure not everyone buying a second hand bike is that pedantic when it comes to a road bike that does 0-60 in 3.2, 160+mph and corners very well.
G you’ve had the pleasure of riding many large machines, I know someone at the Suzuki garage and he said he loves the looks, the sound and the way the ZX7 holds the road “It’s a great machine”, but if he had the choice he’d have the Gixxer to ride everyday.
I know the bikes worth more than £3500 with over 1K spent on it, FSH, new tyres etc, my question was whether I could sell the Ninja and not pay the insurance for the year.

And rather than cash-in the insurance you'd be better off (duh) transferring it to your VFR?

You don't have to cancel your insurance policy, you can just ring up your insurance company and say that you've changed your bike to a VFR400 and ask them to ammend the details accordingly. You may even get a refund if the insurance for the 400 is lower.

The VFR is insured with someone else... Confused

How long until the VFR insurance runs out? If it's less than 3 months, you're probably better off transferring the other insurance over rather than cashing it in.

Ring them up and ask them directly how much refund if you cancel it and how much refund if you transfer it to your VFR.

I guess it depends on how long it will be before letting the ZX7 go and getting the next bike. If it's not going to be long then just leave the policy running, then ring to change it when you get the new bike.

They may 'pause' it, but unlikely. Not in all cases, but in many it often costs you a lot more to get it changed.
As instigator said, it will be interesting to see if you do manage to sell it for a decent price.
If you're looking to do this more often, then it might be worth looking at the ebike insurance monthly policy. Costs £5 more a month (so £60 a year, but allows you a fair bit more flexibility.)

It's not just for the track, where unless you're racing it almost matters less, it's ease of use / willingness for the bike to do what you want with minimal effort, nevermind the keeping up with the Jones, which sees a lot of people going for the newest model they can.

I'm not trying to have a go, just advise you of the facts from my perspective.

Generally, in my epxerience, big servicing/parts bills only add a smallish fraction of what has actually been paid to the sale price.

Because from the VFR to the Kwak (modifications) it was far too much to pay.

So i rang around....
