I have a new comp (albeit second hand). Anyhoo, when I play the quake for a while a beeping noise comes from the case. Nahh Niiii, nahh, niiii etc etc. It does this for a few mins then goes off. A few mins later it's off again, nahh nii, nahh , nii. When I come of the quake and go on something else it stops. It never comes on when I surf the net.

Any ideas? I think its a warning of some sort but who knows. Anyone know how to disable such things? It's on Win XP if thats of any help.

Cheers F.S.

Its the temperature warning, go in the bios and disable it or make it come on at a later (warmer) stage.

Just had a game, no beeping. Sorted. Of coarse when you're quake champion it's got a lot of calculations to do. Very Happy

What CPU do you have?

Have you checked your fans/vents/heatsinks are all clean and free of dust?

The last thing you want to do is mask a serious overheating problem by upping the limit.

2.8 pent 4 thingy. Doubt it's full of dust 'cos it's just been built up, but I guess I'll check anyway.

i have my alarm set to go off at 67 degrees, this reminds me to take of my cooler fan and clean the nice sheet of dust that it has made on the heatsink.

Get some case fans in there or get a better CPU fan, also consider moving the PC box somewhere out into the open a little (not stuck under a desk / in a corner).

Because mine does it in hot weather, I stuck loads of books etc on and around it without realising and it got to about 50 degrees without load.

So I moved it a bit, and stuck 4 case fans on the front and back Thumbs Up

You may want to consider moving drives / cables around to get better airflow as well.
