I am noticing an increasing use of the phrase
"can i get......"
Instead of
"Can i have...."
In shops, and pubs at the moment, where has this new and annoying phrase come from ?

People keep saying that to me at work, I always reply with "help yourself".

Things like that annoy me greatly.

They're both equally annoying. You meant, of course, "May I have...".

Haven't noticed that one to be honest. At the moment I've noticed a lot of people are saying "To be fair" in every sentence. It started at work and now I've noticed my friends outside of work and family are saying it. What's that about? Confused

You've only just noticed this!!

Best reply I've heard was in a pub when the landlord said;

"You'll need long arms from there son!" and promptly served someone else!

Oh yeah, "my bad" is up there with the best (worst) of 'em.

it can't be any more annoying that someone walkin into a shop and just stating the product they want.

my mate at work (before he got sacked) lol, some tit walked in and said "hello r300 inks" (computer store), my mate promptly replied "my names wayne not r300 inks", which made me cry with laughter.

nothing worse that helping out someone who's rude.

what happened to please and thankyou. 90% of the time i'll do it , unless the person helping me is an idiot and rude

I knew an american from St Louis, who came over to the UK and whilst here she asked some suited fella directions -

"Excuse me sir, do you know where St Pauls Catherdral is at?"

His response was something along the lines of -

"It is awfully bad english to end a structured sentence with a preposition"

She thought about it, and so re-asked the question.

"Do you know where St Pauls Cathedral is at, mother fucker?"

Made me laugh!

All this means is that we're all old buggers.

Language naturally evolves, I'm pretty sure I used less than perfect english when I was a nipper. What worries me is that the new phrases and words used by the youth have spread to the mainstream (newsround etc.). Why is adding unnecessary words to the dictionary somehow become 'fun'?

I seriously dislike 'marketing talk', how they love to misspell a word just so it stands out giving some kind of 'brand identity'

New slang confuses me, but not half as much as someone from Sheffield, missing out words and joining others, I say. Razz

I always use the word "us" instead of "me", it confuses a lot of people and annoys some as well Razz

Around here a lot of people say "ain it" instead of isn't it
or "No, I aint", instead of "No, I am not"

Annoying
My Daughter has started to say it now, and it doesn't sound very nice
Makes her sound chavvy Neutral

Also ...
"It was PROPER scary"
"It was PROPER weird"
Shocked

Mind you, where I used to come from 'oop norf' the village next to us used to called small L'AL ,... and big G'T
Confused
err...
yeah Middle Finger
