Although it pains me to think it, I might have to sell the Ninja……

I have really got into the bike no, but as the VFR runs now I shouldn’t really have the Kwak.
I was doing really well paying off my loan from the stolen DTR, but this new one has put me into a position I don’t really like. Thing is the VFR needs now, 2 new tyres, MOT and tax, I don’t really have enough to pay for this outright all at once but could if I sell the Ninja.

If I sell the VFR I only get about £1500 (I haven’t checked yet), most of that I will need for a few things, like a deposit on another flat, and the rest to my loan, which TBH isn’t a considerable chunk off the total.

If I sell the Kwak, I could make about 200 quid on it at a push, but then I’m left with an 11 year old Honda, which is obviously a down grade in power……

Not a nice situation, any advice guys? Neutral Thumbs Down

Sell both, buy something you're happy with and put some money towards the flat/debts.

If your thinking of selling the ZX7R to keep the VFR then the 7R isn't the right bike for you.

If the 7R was the right bike for you the VFR would have already been sold.

But it sounds like the VFR is not really the bike for you either, so why not sell them both and start test riding a load of bikes with a pocket full of cash?

I'd get rid of the debt.

You wouldn't have bought the Kwak if the VFR was running, now it's running, you know?

Just to clarify:

You owe money on a stolen DTR

You own outright the VFR

You took out a loan on the ZX7R (?) and this was only a month of so ago.

You need to move flat and therefore need some cash.

I'd personally want to keep the Ninja but it does sounds like you might have a bit more on the go than you can afford. As much as it pains me to say, the most cost effective option would be to sell everything, pay off the debts and then start again but buy within your means.

I’ve thought about all the above and it’s still very difficult.

I’ve tried to sort out the problem trying to take out the passion for the machines.

The VFR is an awesome bike, the Kwak performance outweighs it, but it doesn’t make it an easy decision.
Another option would be to sell the Kwak and try and swipe another bargain to make some cash, I still have the VFR to run around on in the process.

Cheers guys! Thumbs Up

Im going to say sell them both, sort out all your debts then get another bike once you've saved up some more money. That’s probably not what you want to hear but I know that if it was me, though i love bikes, i would rather clear my debts then come back to biking when i can really afford it and not worry so much about money

If you sell the Kwak you really should pay back the loan you took out to buy it. If you hadn't had a broken VFR you wouldn't have bought the Kwak. If you didn't buy the Kwak you wouldn't have taken another loan out?

If you get rid of one of your loans you'll have a little extra cash each month to put towards things like MOTs etc.

Could you pay off one of the loans by selling the VFR? Now that it's running sweet and summer is coming it might be the best time to sell?

If you can't decide for yourself, post up a poll, let the great voice of BCF seek an answer to your dilemma.

If it was me, I'd sell the Kwak and spend a bit of the change on tweaking the NC.

VFR

for = looks ok, good build quality, less depreciation than the ZX7R.

against = small engine, old bike, lots of miles, needs new tyres, old technology, not very quick, more likley to go wrong because of it's age.

ZX7R

for = Big bike, fast, looks, handles, not to many miles, not to many on the road, probably better for a pillion, more reliable than the Honda because its newer.

against = it's a Kawasaki, old technology, heavy.

By my reckoning the ZX7R wins but it's still not as good as an SP1.

Sorry, must mention an opinion on a couple of things:

Quote:
for = looks ok, good build quality, less depreciation than the ZX7R.

against = small engine, old bike (and, the 7Rs not exactly state of the art, even when they were first released), lots of miles, needs new tyres (not as pricey as a bigger set of hoops), old technology (like? gear driven cams, 4p brakes, single sided swingarm, aluminium twinspar frame....?), not very quick (in a straight line), more likley to go wrong because of it's age (it's a gear driven Honda, they're pretty much mechanically bullet proof).

ZX7R

for = Big bike, fast, looks, handles, not to many miles, not to many on the road, probably better for a pillion, more reliable than the Honda because its newer (eh? Maybe the Kwak's gremlins are about to surface, the Honda's now in its stride))

against = it's a Kawasaki, old technology, heavy.

NC30 engines are bulletproof, but I would take Kawasaki electrics over Honda electrics any day....
