Hi,

I borrowed a '83 XL500R from a friend during my drama with hire bikes, and I've now got a chance to actually buy it.

It's mechanically (quite) sound, engine's in pretty good nick but the bodywork is really tatty and the electrics are shot. Starting to look like a rat bike.

This is such a fun bike to ride and I quite fancy it as a project, cos even a mechanical numpty like me can sort bodywork & paint it.

Trouble is, I've no idea what it's worth. Any ideas?

I'd defenately not spend more than £800 myself and that would be the top end, considering the work it will need then £600 might be a fair price (ive been offered cx500's in shit hot condition for £500 in perfect working order and cosmeticaly excelent)

Depends how much they want for it, ask them how much they'd want for it, and decide if you want it enough to pay that much Razz (unless you rewire it yourself your maybe looking £50 for a loom)

I've been watching a few oldish KLR650's on ebay which are similar and mid-late 80's one are selling for about £650.

So i recon no more than £500 for the XL.
