Riding With A Missing Number Plate!

Heya.

Was walking back last night after a pissup round the pub, and I noticed a GSX-r ( pretty sure it was a 1000cc ) was ragging it around, He had full leathers on, push stuff, so hes obviously not an idiot. It put a smile on my face ( as nutters on superbikes do when ur a bit drunk ) and I carried on down the road.

Passed the petrol station only to notice that the bike was there, I got a good look at it ( from a distance that is ) and noticed the numberplate had "fallen off".

I was just wondering what sort of penalty this carries?

Also I was going to inform the rider about this, but to behonest I was a bit put off by the fact that he was fully leatherd up and a good ft taller than me! He didnt act like he stole it or anything, he paid for the petrol and all that. I just presumed he did took his numberplate off on purpose, and wouldnt of liked the fact that some short ass drunken teenager was gona try and tell him what he already knows... I know I should off, but oh well.

So I ask again, whats the peanlty of not having a number plate off, surely if you intentionally broke the number plate holder ( obviously have a spare one that works ) or even better, leave a bit of the number plate on, to make it look like it had cracked and fallen off whilst riding without the rider knowing.

My friends and I do this quite a lot. A fine for getting caught is about £20.
But without a reg plate I could never really see myself getting caught.

I thought you could get done for perverting the course of justice? Especially if you're going through speed cameras at silly speeds etc?

Just this evening encountered a couple of trail bikes riding on tracks up the moor (but on the road as well) I found it pretty annoying that they both only had part of a number plate intact - surely deliberate and well out of order.
Probably no insurance or anything - well that's what I'd think if I was a cop, and would definitely want to be stopping them.

Noooo, not if the numberplate fell off. How could you have known? They would have to prove that there was the intention to pervert the course of justice. Which, unless the plate was habitually falling off, they wouldn't be able to do.
Putting a fake plate on it or tampering with some of the numbers can get you in serious trouble. As would getting caught for going through loads of speed cameras at high speeds.

Mine blew off on the way to Snetterton last year. I was getting some funny looks and so was puzzled as to what had happened. When one of the BCFers came over and mentioned something about me taking my number plate off early.

It had blown off on the way there.

I received my replacement in the post 3 days after I had my crash.

Loads of people do it at night in london, ace cafe and chelsea bridge.

Best thing i saw was 2am 3 black k5 gsxr1000's with 3 blokes all in black leathers, helmets etc all ragging it around.

I take my numberplate off sometimes, all you get is £30 fine, although next time im caught with no or a small numberplate apparently my bike is going to be Q plated.

I might just but a normal sized numberplate snap it in half and if i get stopped be like oh it snapped.

When i worked at dk there was stories all the time like this.

A particular group came in and bought 3 brand new bikes, paid cash and collected them. The week after apparently the same 3 were seen wheelying up the a34 right past dk with no plates on.

Madness, id love to do it mind.

The number plate is the reason the motorist gets royally fucked over so easily.

There are far more cameras out there than there are traffic police so the odds are pretty good.
