Does anybody else do this? , been working at a city centre based place for about 2 weeks now and I generally leave @ 5.15 (due to the fact I come in much earlier).

Filtering home , some other guys on bikes start filtering with you and it turns almost into a race, this is in solid grid locked Manchester traffic

And has cut my regular travel time from 20-25 minutes to about 15 minutes , and makes it more interesting (this week I owned a FJR1300 , a Pan a CBR600 , and was 0wned by a Busa a GSX750 and a bloke with ham hocks for legs on a push bike).

Is it crazy or just taking advantage of the fact that the roads going in to Manchester are pretty empty and the roads going out are chocka going round is a perfectly legit way to cut commute times.

McGee, your just jealous as you can't filter! Laughing

Generally pefer slower filtering as you can really rub it into the cagers how sweet bikes are.

However I have done some silly motorway filtering before, but not again.

It's very stupid to be 'racing' with other people filtering.

Which was exactly what I kept telling myself coming out of London down the M4 following a courier Confused.

I do get a bit too competitive over it Neutral.

Personally I dont.....well, usually.....too much risk involved with filtering for me, but obviously I do see the appeal.

think I'll be going through Salford instead then or have a bit more restraint, the road near the Hein Gericke which runs parrallel to the road which goes to the prison is pretty quiet , dangerous as fook though chavs + rocks + lotsa broken glass.

must be overcompesating for my boring day job.

How come you get to filter with cool bikes Sad
I have to filter through poynton roadworks and all i get is a series of spotty kids on mopeds. Its not really safe to filter fast through my traffic as there are loads of side streets, it does piss me off though when i pull in at a safe spot and they come barging past and get ahead of me Embarassed

It can be quite safe, but you do need to be very wary.

There's plenty of tell tale signs that cars / pedestrains are going to do stupid things.

I would be especially careful following other bikes, as it's often quite hard to tell what's ahead, though car drivers are more likely to check if one bike has gone past, don't count on it.

Most of the cagers round here seem to move over, even the lorry drivers, so i always give a big Thumbs Up when i go past. Probably due to the noisy rattle of a cagiva 125 lol.

If you have common sense whilst filtering and you don't start getting complacent you'll be ok. My common sense abandons me sometimes, and 30+mph filtering is great fun Very Happy or at least it was, i think the accident has shaken my confidence a bit.

Next time someone tries following you, do a rolling burnout, that'll lose 'em Razz

Usually if i see someone on a bigger bike (who will obviously have more experience) filtering, and i recon it would be ok for me to do aswell, i'll follow him, watch what he does, learn by example. Though i keep my distance so if anything goes tits up i wouldent affect him/he wouldent affect me.

Feel for you filtering through that Shit hole! You not tried the Rochdale Road, then follow signs for North Manchester General Hospital way. I find that cuts out all the tosser area's with the Exception of Collyhurst, and also enables me stop at gf's dump bag off then get to Bolton.

And Itchy do you ever answer your texts, just wondered if you fancied a pint on Friday night at the GF's pub in Blackely?

I managed to lose a guy on a gpz in traffic, and my bars must be just as wide as his. He seemed to be more cautious, though.

I used to love racing people whilst filtering, till I came to close to crashing.

Normally I would filter pass a big lorrie or bus with extreme caution ( almost stopping ) but I decided to just go for it, and as i got passed the lorrie i saw to my horror a van was pulling out, thankfully i was quick enough to move, but that was just to close.

I still filter like a prick down the A roads Very Happy

Was filtering today and a BMW M3 decided to try and filter past me, looked like he got clipped by an oncoming 44 tonner, how i laughed.

I filter, but i would never let it turn into a race. I normally just filter at slow speeds, around 15mph, some one could easily move out in front of you and you wouldn't be able to stop in time. I just find normal filtering enjoyable, only really started doing it recently as wasn’t really confidant enough before, i just love seeing all the cars stuck in the traffic while i pass 30 of them in one go.

Yea, u gota love the way they depressingly look at u in there mirror, and make sad attempts at blocking u at the next traffic island, only to move forward and watch u sail off into the distance whilst they sit there in there hot and sweaty underpants ( and clothes most of the time.. )

very slowly going into chester on the 51 at the end of the dual carridgeway which is always backed up at around 5.

as there are lots of turn offs.

most of them seem pent up all the time and they try and close the gap which is pretty pointless as you just trundle past and wag your head.

Friday eh? , how abouts you wait outside the Hein Gerike on Friday evening after working hours say 5.30 , and lead the way , I know where the pub is slightly north of Harper Hay market/asda but generally don't go there too often.

I do find myself reaching silly speeds filtering on the A14..

it starts out as "brap"- past that car... "brap" past another one..."brap" a truck this time... and so on.;.

each time you "brap" you pick up a bit more speed, then suddenly you feel like you're doing a slalom, and the speedo is in fine territory Neutral

have to keep myself in check sometimes.

east lancs road is brilliant for filter races.. i heard....

if you hit kearsley junction for half seven.. you can filter all the way from the roundabout to the beginnings of the m62 !!! thats scary ! saves me roughly an hour.

I filter in Edinburgh, don't see many other bikes but I would just pull in and let them by.

Used to go pretty fast through any space but I hurt my arm on a wingmirror once and have slowed down now. If the gap isnt spacious I just pick the faster lane and pass normally.

And any accident while filtering will be ruled at least 50% your fault Sad

i filter quite slow, often scooters pass me, but at the end of the day, i get to work/home still walking. at the end of the day, your life will be disrupted when you come off, and you may risk never being able to ride again. if you want to race, head for the track. you have to remember, when motorists go to work in the morning, they are probably still sleepy, and when they head home, they just want to rush home like everyone else. but hey, if you want to risk your limbs....just don't risk the lives of slower riders by zipping past with only centimeters to spare.
