 |

hey all, i'm in a bit of a pickle at the mo and it is consorning my bike. When i bought the bike of Stoney i was just going to change a few parts and ride till i passed my test, but my best freinds brother and dad who are top dogs on rebuilding and making bikes look good as new, said they would strip it down completely and getting it looking fresh again, i thought great!!
trouble is the bike has been completely stripped and the frame repainted and nothing else the brother has moved with his job and his dad doesn't really want to get started on it.
the trouble is though i don't have any where were i can keep the bike under cover and do it myself, plus also i'm not you can say a gifted mechanic and actually know very little about how to put it back together, so what do then, i'm really not sure, should i go round and collect the bike and have a go at doing myself (bought the Haynes manual for it) or just leave them to get round to doing it??
any advice would be good many thanks for you time

You could possibly offer money? Or constantly keep his fridge stocked up on beer and break his TV, then he will get bored, grab a beer and start work on it |

cheers for the replies! the thing with his dad is we don't particually get on lol but we do talk like.
i have offered him money but he told me to put it back in my pocket or spend it on the bike, so i did and bought a new chain sprokets, New Air filter and a spark plug lol
but the trouble is he is my best freind and i don't want to get there backs up by just taking it back
Also Davo many thanks for the other and i may end up taking you up on that as terms of stripped back it is bare lol just the frame is standing lol everything has been packed up in to boxes also the fairings have been sprayed and the engine is in the workshop. another point is i dont have anywhere to store the bike while rebuilding it
once again many thanks for the replies
take it easy

Hi,
Is the bike at your dads house, if it is and you can work on it there.
I would buy the haynes manual and ask if you can borrow his tools (or buy some) and get started. You will perhaps find that when you start he will help and give advice.
(He's a dad so wont be able to resist )
You can also post on here for help (hope you have a digital camera) and then fins someone to check it over for you.
Regards

the bike cost 350 as i remember but i just really want to start riding it it but can't, well i could always run around with a frame making the noises lol
going round at 7 to have a word with em and see if at least i can go and work on it on my own as it is starting to take the piss
and then hopefully he will give me a helping hand, also them Haynes manuals seem to be very cleart and could turn out to be a bible for me lol
many thanks

If you're planning on making lots of mistakes I'd expect it will take you 2 weeks or so, working a couple of hours an evening. Honestly, if it'd happened to me, I'd be fuming, as I wouldn't dare put a bike back together, with my mechanical knowledge. |

definitely dont try doing it alone. if he shows u what to do that sounds ideal as you learn at the same time
must be a nightmare having a bike in boxes u cant use !
they really shdnt have dismantled it without thinking of whether they wd have time to put it back together ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

if i knew they were going to take this long the think would have never gone round there in the first place, but hey a harsh lesson learned, and Stu rat was the one that was going to help me rebuild it but with his job being posted up north and his dad reluctant to start the thing but we have struck a deal so all is gravy at the moment,
but it is a right bitch having a bike but it 1 being away from me and 2 in a million pieces, well he has said 4 weeks and it will be ready for it MOT and according to him it will sail through after he has finished with it, i'll keep you updated on what happen, but this has been a hard lesson please learn from it!!!
many thanks for your help

if they had just broken it up to sell all the parts, you would be non the wiser if they keep promising to put it back together for another few years !
I dont really think that has happened though and lets hope he finds the time to put it back together. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |
