Ok so its been quite hot these past few days and i rode in jeans and a t-shirt

Do people think this is stupid even though this is for slow 5min journeys into town/ to the gym? If going for an enjoyment ride i always put the leather jacket on....

At the moment I ride in Draggin Jeans and a Spada Textile Jacket.....Plus the usual Protection.....Wouldn't ride in anything less tbh.....

There's no dividing line between stupid and safe, it's all about what risk the rider himself is prepared to accept.

Is it stupid to wear textiles instead of leather? Is it stupid to wear a cheaper make of leather instead of the most you can afford?

What some people would risk on some roads, they might not take it on another one.

It comes down to knowing that if you come off in a t shirt you are going to get road rash. It doesn't matter if other people think it is a stupid risk or a worthwhile one, all that matters is, is it a risk you are willing to take?

on short journeys in scorching weather, yes it is a risk im willing to take - i just want to hear what other people think thats all, to see if im a minority or not

i have seen many people in my area (bedford) in t-shirts and shorts on big bikes (not just chavs on peds), so wondered what you guys thought

It's a risk I've taken many times in the past, but now I'm leaning towards using protective gear all the time. You see, the sun does seem to bring the idiot car drivers and pedestrians out.

I dunno had some offs recently , one where I was hurt but not seriously (badly skinned knee and achy bones) , had a similar off with an oil slick which was faster and harder with full armour got up and was unscathed.

However all I'd say is keep those eyes peeled as observation is important ! and can often mean the need for armour or not.

Its your body at the end of the day! I don't care what anyone else wears as long as I and anyone on my bike is safe. You could ride around naked with just flip flops on for all I care.

I wouldn't let anyone on the back of my bike though with jeans or T-shirt on, as I class their safety my responsibility. But its my decision.

Yes it is stupid! In a crash at just 30mph it takes just 1 metre, sliding down the road, for bare skin to be ground down to the bone. Now do you think it's stupid?

I allways wear the jacket and sometimes the trousers (allways wear them in winter mind) this weekend i was at download in donnington (about 10miles or so, but sue to giveing a couple of lifts to and from train station i ended up half emptying the substansial tank)

wore jeans and a tshirt+hoodie and paraboots, because it was so barstard hot anything else would have made concentrateing even more difficult that it allready was, full winter textile/leather would have been dangerous in themselfs.. but it was 40degrees out there :/

I wore my old open face helmet from my scooter days during the recent heat wave, and I must say I so enjoyed the extra visibility that I might keep on wearing it until it gets too cold.

I'd prefer not to have the gravel rash but when it gets to hot the discomfort can distract you when your bumbling along so you may end up crashing cos you were trying to unstick your trousers from your legs and not paying attention.

Do it if your comfortable but then be twice as careful and don't take any unessacery risks.

Lovely and cool, wouldent be great if your tarmac surfing but most of my riding is around london, and if im going out for a fast ride the leather jacket goes over that...

And Draggin jeans down below... obveously gloves and boots

Bit of a tradeoff for safety but it keeps me nice and cool and im not tempted to wear a t-shirt anymore

Bought myself some Draggin Jeans the other day with some Knox knee protectors, seem OK to me and are a lot cooler than my textile trousers

At download I went in a leather jacket with the vents open, draggin jeans and velcro on knee armour underneath and of course boots on.

Once I got there I took the knee armour off and jacket and put them in a locker, had jeans and teeshirt on then (the teeshirt said "start the day with a smile. and get it over with" incase you saw me) and on the way back, put armour and jacket back on and was ready for the bike again.
