Just wondered what your views were on the grab handle on the Blackbird?

I just been out on the back of my mates for lunch, and although it is a rear handle (as opposed to the ones at the sides) it didnt seem to have been thought out too well.

Where as with other rear handles, you are able to brace against braking and acceleration forces easily, i found that on the 'birds you arent able to.

Reason being that (for me at least) the bar appears to be located to close to where the pillion sits, and too low down - meaning that to reach it in the first instance, you're arms are already pretty braced, and when bracing against hard acceleration levels, you're entire body tends just to rotate around your hands like a pivot point.

If the bar was located higher, or perhaps further back from where the pillion sits, the pivot point would be further away thus allowing you to brace easier.

Just wondered what you're views are on it? Has anyone else experienced a similar problem on any other bikes?

Thumbs Up Karma

They are similar to the standard ones on ZX7R's and ZX9R's and i too found them woefully inadequate under high acceleration.

In fact i removed them from my old ZX7R and replaced them with a traditional type grab rail because my missus at the time was really struggling to hold herself on and that was on a 7R so it must be much worse on a Blackbird with the power those things have!

Sounds exactly like the ones on the back of the GS500E.

My hands got stuck under them as well :S
