Well i was on my way home this evening and the car infront of me braked suddenly so i had to do an emergency stop.

I put on a bit too much rear brake it would seem and i ended up looking like i was doing speedway. Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes

It was odd because it didnt really seem like i put any more pressure on the brake than usual?
Felt really strange as it took a while for me to realise that the back end was drifting out, then it went out further really quick.

I was happy to find though that it didnt really scare me and i was able to quite calmly correct it all without anything bad happening.

Left quite a nice mark on the road which will remind me everytime i ride past it Karma

Kaben Thumbs Up

Well done for not panicking. It's weird isn't it but when these things happen it just isn't scary. It's afterwards when you think about what occurred and what could have happened as a result it can be a bit frightening.
I'm really not very good at gauging how much pressure I use with my foot and as a result have locked up the back wheel a number of times. When I need to do any sudden braking now I use the front brake as I seem to be a better judge with that. When I think about it, I often only use one finger on the front brake lever, sometimes two and rarely three. Four isn't an option because my little finger is only half the length of the finger next to it and just doesn't reach.

I had a similar thing today. Went to pass a slow lorry and I thought I had plenty of space (as I had looked for a long time up the left side). Pulled out, straight into the path of a taxi that was hidden behind the lorry. Too much rear brake and it all went a bit pear shaped with the rear snaking left and right as I tried to pull back in.

Put the wind up me as I missed him by inches. Then found out the bike shop was closed for a refitt. Sad

Neutral

Oh well,

K.

Happens to mine, slides out to the right under heavy breaking. Almost shat my self first time it happened, car comes too fast (i may have been going a little too fast as well) round a small country lane i emergency break with no chance of stopping before i get to the car so try to slip through this gap between the car and the bank that must have only been a few foot wide while i was sliding out. Still dont know how i managed to save it with out scraping down the side of the car.
