I keep seeing these quad bikes on the road. Would i be right in assuming a motorcycle licence is required for one ? Confused

but you do need a car licence , and a helmet , a trike would probably be easier.

its funny cus I'm sure a quad would not weigh more than 410 kilos ,
trikes that are sub 410 kilos are bikes , but more than are cars funny init,

You can ride one on a car or bike licence. You dont legally need a helmet, but i would highly recomend one. Just because its got 4 wheels doesnt meen its safer in the event of an accedent, probably more dangerous than a bike. A normal sports quad has a dry weight of about 170 kg

They are evil fuckers when going around corners..Borderline dangerouse! Much MUCH slower than a bike, however off road they come into their own. I would never go on the road on one again. Thumbs Down

6 and ahalf seconds Mr. Green Mr. Green thats an eternity...Some cars go faster than that, Like I said MUCH slower than a bike. Also its not a road legal Quad its a full racing version Wink ...Anyway I was refering to cornering speed.

A quad holds the track record for a bike track here in NI Laughing so they can corner when set up correctly even better than a bike!

I have a semi-Race Raptor which is 660cc by no means a slouch ok its only a 50hp single and 185kg but lower ratio than a bike and higher torque not to mention i have 225 wide road tyres so i will easily see 60 in under 5 secs i believe that brings it inline with a R6 as i have beeten a few off the line in my car which is running similar power to weight ratio to the quad but over 80 a bike will kill both off them.

Road kits can be bought for £5-600 and its low tax and no helmet needed but best to wear one. There is a lot off guys in the states round Cali using quads on the road so becoming popular theres even a few turbo'd ones about Wink

Think you'll need to get under 3 seconds to be inline with the R6 or maybe I'm wrong Rolling Eyes

For proper comparrison of course you would need equal drivers take the quad and the bikes blah blah......

...Different debate.

Very Happy

Grip is the main factor here dumping the clutch with over 300hp and using 4x4 with 2 lsd to transmit the power no wheel spin even when wet!! against a small patch off rubber on a wheelie machine!

Until the bike gets moving you cant wind the kneck out off it so making across the line dashes harder unless you have someone sit on the tank Laughing
