Learn to service it yourself, its fairly easy to do, especially on a two stroke.

Have a look in your owners book to see what it entails.

If its still under warranty then yes, as not getting a service may invalidate any claim you need to make.

If its out of warranty then do it yourself, you will save £££'s

How much, if any, do you reckon not having a stamped up book affects the sell on price?

if you are going to get it serviced , go to a place that'll let you watch , Speedy in Radcliffe (manchester) does but from the yard outside ,

so does Warricks

many don't once you see them do it , its easier for you to learn.

otherwise DIY.

What does the service include? Do they clean the carbs or just do the brake pads & change oil, small things like that?

I just bought a 'How-to' DVD for my bike so hopfully i will service it myself.

personally i felt ripped off when i got my 50 serviced, £80 for them to look around the bike and replace a spark plug, i could have done that myself for about £10, plug had only done 3k km anyway so i dont see why it needed replacing but there the experts Wink

im learning how to do it myself for my nsr however, no way im paying that much for them to look at my bike again.

dont think it adds any real value to the bike either, some people might go ooh thats good, but if you dont mention it, it may not even occur to them till they've bought your bike and gone home.

actually my bike had a FSH , all the stamps in the honda book right up to date , it didn't really make a difference to me but only probably to you , BMW man nearby only gets professional service cus he can afford it and it gives him peace of mind.

One of the best things you can do is to service your own bike yourself. this way, you learn how your bike works and gives you a better understanding for when you move onto a bigger bike what Stage 3, dynojetteing and all that other stuff is all about. An NSR ins't exactly a piece of high tech engineering like matey's BMW in the previous thread. have a read through the owners' manual and see what is says. Don't be scared, ask for advice if you need it, but most of all, go for it!!!

all you need to do on yours in this case is look at the chain, oil anything that needs it (cables etc) with some spray grease or WD40, dump and change the gear box oil and change the spark plug. Easy peasey. Do it yourself!

Indeed ive moved from being totally mechanically inept when i started, to building a special out fo two seperate bikes!

Never look back. Do your own servicing its good for both your soul and wallet.

Yes servicing is worth it.

If you value your bike, and your life, its worth doing.
