This has probably been posted countless times, so sorry in advance if it has, but what would you recommend as the best product for getting stubborn dead flies and tar of a fairing?

For dead flies cover in water soaks tissue paper and leave for a bit, then peel off, they're hard to get off because theyre dry, much easier to rehydrate before attempting to remove.

I think a clay bar might pull them out too, worth asking ZRX61 as he seems to know quite a lot about bodywork.

Very Happy

Autoglym motorcycle cleaner is good. Spray it on and leave it for a few minutes, the flies just wipe away easily. Thumbs Up

For dead flies, wet sponge, simple as that. Read what is says in your manual it works. If you want to put a shine on it afterwards buy something like Turtle Wax. I bought one of those V2 visor cleaning sponges off Ebay and it's great. Thought if that works on the visor then it's worth trying a similar thing on the bike. As long as the sponge is relatively clean and free of debris it doesn't scratch and it's a cheap solution no expensive liquids to keep paying out for.

I've got a sponge thingy bagged in a thin cotton net - came with an issue of Bike a while back. Soak in water, wipe off flies, dry, repolish.

Hmmm just using a wet sponge seems to take ages to get the buggers off, the flies round here are well hard Smile

Not sure about the wet paper towel theory, but i'm willing to give it a go.

So we have Auto Glym and Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner so far using a V2 visor cleaning sponge after a few minutes of soaking.

I guess I couldn't help myself, what with "Cleaning" appearing in the topic's title. Wink

I didn't actually mean you should use the V2 visor sponge, the bloody things are tiny. I meant that it gave me a idea of trying a normal sponge on the bike to remove flies.

The freebie one actually had a bigger net on it, maybe to make it a bit rougher.
I got a sponge from Asda that is smooth on one side and rough on the other. It's good for the flies too, especially the ones stuck up on the forks.

Tesco microfibre cloth for £1.60 or there abouts. Sponge gets the little buggers off easier. The microfibre for drying and polishing afterwards.

That will work, but a waste of the clay bar. I just use soap & water...

a lot depends on how long they are left on..

i KNOW the flies I aquired at the weekend, and have now been baked on, will be a bugger to remove, and a wet sponge won't be enough. if I'd cleaned them at the time, it would have been fine.

I never clean mine straight away, i probably clean my bike once a fortnight, so the majority of the flies seem to be welded on!

I'm ususally on too much of a buzz to clean the bike directly after a ride and then knackered once the buzz wheres off and just want a beer Razz

It bloody does work and its a damn sight kinder to your paintwork etc that trying to scrub them off. I use wet paper towels to get flies off my car, the bike and my visor. Just leave them on for 5 mins or so and the will just wipe away. Cool

Ok, i need to clean my bike tonight before my trackday tomorrow and i haven't got the time to source any new cleaning products or fancy sponges so i guess it'll be a perfect time to give the paper towel theory a go.
