What do you think of them? , seen a L reg (curious as the UBG says they finished production in 83), fairly tidy CX500 turbo one for £600 49K on the clocks , tyres aren't even scrubbed in yet , new pads newish oil ,11 months MOT and tax.Minor surface rust horrible white colour and some faded plastics.
I'm thinking of a stable mate for my NTV650 just in case it I actually do manage to destroy it, as I've been doing alot of damage to me NTV lately its all fixable(added to the fact that if I have a spare I can do some riskier maintenance on it say clutch change or valve clearances) but don't ever want to risk public transport, how does the older CX compare to the NTV?.
Or should I not be such a lazy arse and look for a non shaftie like a CB250/400 or something?
Anythoughts?

(Not that i'm biast or anything)
The cx imo piddles on the ntv, easyer to work on and more stable, but alo far heavyer (240kg) anfd parts are becomeing rare..
Eurosport models handle better and brake better, but they are alsoslightly more complex (brakes are a pain need striping every 4/5 months to keep pins slideing as they should)
The z/a/b models are also great, but dont push them hard..
Thing to watch out for..
Check the chargeing system, and check for mayonise in the rocker box covers or a leak at the water pump houseing (they also sometimes get blocked by unscrupulous sellers)
Turobo versions are exelent BUT if the turbo goes wrong THERE ARE NO PARTS FOR SALE ANYWHERE! they are extreemly rare and very expensive if you do, you'lll need parts makeing.. they are fuel injected too but the 650 is extreemly complex (and prone to eletcal gremlins because of this) put it this way, a new ecu, of which there are few will set you back £900.. tbh its worth buying just to break it for spares. (presumeing it all works)
The 500turbo is the one to go for of them, the 650 euro, custom or GL (silverwing) are the best models to go for powerwise they match a modern sv650.
Any more specific question on cx's feel free to pm me ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

haha if I fuck it up I'll just go round your house and switch number plates and ride off into the sunset. , bike is from a dealer though a big reputable one.
Though this GT550 (not couriered) , 1999 model is starting to tempt me also , though and 13K on the clock or is that 113K?. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The CX is like a tank! Crappy ones make great rat-bikes, you can keep them together with bits of wire and gaffer tape.
When they go well, you feel like they're invincible (well, as invincible as you ever are on a bike, LOL) and seem to go on forever.
We once patched up the exhaust on one at the side of the road with a bit of tar paper and a LOT of exhaust cement. Shame it fell off in the middle of Mayfair at 1.30 am, but hey-ho, such is the lot of ratbikers.
Some of them seem to have some kind of back-end wobble, hence couriers nicknaming them "the maggot".
In the past, we've got spares from David Silver in Norfolk www.davidsilverspares.co.uk
Very comfortable back seats for the pillion department, as well.
