Hey, well basically my dt has got scuffed Evil or Very Mad and the black plastic is turing dull, its not painted as far as i know black throughout, could anyone tell me what is good to polish this sort of plastic to make it shiney again ?

You mean non painted plastic as in the numberplate holder, indicator stems and suchlike?

Or do you mean actual fairings?

You'll need to treat it like metal. Wet and dry getting finer and finer, then you'll need rubbing compound and a buffing machine. Furniture polish works well on plastics once you've buffed the scratch out.

could i ask whats the finest wet and dry out ? and what rubbing compounds would you recomend, thanks

finest wet and dry - you can go as fine as you like. I think 2400-2600 is the finest commercially available.

Don't use wet and dry.

The best thing I found was brake fluid used very carefull as it melts the top layer of the plastic. Just be very carefull and try on a hidden piece first.

I thought he was after Polishing the scuff out, not bringing back the colour. Dyed plastics always fade, it seems the chemists have yet to find a uv-stable plastic dye.

No jack I wrote exactly what I meant.

Try putting a bit of bodywork in brake fluid, it absorbs the brake fluid and becomes soft and plyable before breaking up.

the bike has gone a grey colour, think it was the t cut Rolling Eyes the other parts that i didnt touch have gone a awful colour.

so sickup what should i try dipping a cloth in brake fluid and rubbing it ?

I suppose if you're not happy with the base colour wax wont work. Why not T-Cut again and then wax over it?? Basically you just need to take a layer off so tcut should do.

I think theres some confusion here, its not painted its coloured plastic. T-cut will only damage it.

hmmm I thought it would still cut to a lower layer, but maybe not??? I've only ever owned dirt bikes and have never had a problem making them shine!!

sounds like the brake fluid is his best bet then Thumbs Up

Melting is turning from a solid to a liquid, which isn't what happens when plastic is immersed in brake fluid. It goes into aqueous solution, hence it dissolves.
