I was just wondering who else on here cycles and/or owns a bike?

I currently have a very old skool Kona Cinder Cone which I would estimate is 8-9 years old Cool Dance!

It's fairly light, with Rock Shox Indy XC elastomer forks and Mavic rims. It also has a Coda saddle and a suspension seat post (poor man's rear suspension). Check out the cantilever brakes! Not an amazing spec I know, but for £135 (bought in January this year) I thought it was a bargain! I've also got a wireless speedo fitted, and a bracket for my GPS Smile

Before this I had a Specialized Rockhopper FS (bought new in 1999), which I upgraded almost every part. When I decided to sell, it had, amongst other things, Magura HS33 hydraulic rim brakes front and rear, and Manitou XVert forks.

Anyway, to those of you who don't necessarily always have to have an engine with your two wheels, let's see your bikes!

Nice Cindercone. I've got back into mtb'ing a lot recently since I've been skint and there's a new mtb centre been built 8 miles from my house. Miles of purpose built trails Drooling

I've got a 98' Kona Hahanna with bomber Z5's, stx-rc shifters, coda bars, amoeba stem and panaracer trailblasters.

Just took off some x-lite bar ends to get some more width on the handlebar, quite tempted to swap it for an Easton xc riser.

I've got a (tragically under-used) Orange Gringo with Rock Shox on the front. Hardly ever gets used. No pictures of it though.

Bit of an old pic this, but looks pretty much the same apart from tyres and bar ends.

I reckon I've used the bike more off road in the last two weeks than I'd done in the last 3 years Smile

GT RTS. '94 frame with Judy XL's ('98 i think) '98 LX/XT/XTR groupset in the middle of a full strip and rebuild.

Old, but it's a classic.

Also got a schwinn Rocket that i'm rebuilding for my dad. £125 of ebay for a full sus LX groupset. Smile

In the post is a schwinn hardtail frame that i'm putting with some '98 judy XC's to make a XC machine for a mate, or keep myself.

XL's cost £550 for about 3 months, then the bombers for that year were released and the XL's dropped to £200......

I hate modern cheap bikes. Trying to be something they're not. I'll get some pics of my stash up once it's finished.

I'd like to fit some old skool XLs or XLCs onto my bike. Would I need to get the frame reinforced anywhere?, as I'm not sure if it would take triple clamps.

Does anyone know of a good place to buy old bike components, other than eBay?

We're sounding like classic bike enthusiasts Laughing

Noticed recently new decent steel hardtails are becoming somewhat of a rarity.

MBR had a £500 test last month with 12 hardtails, all alloy frames.

Ebay. Picked up these for £41. Nearly new and they look well looked after. After eight years of abuse mine are fine. That includes a year of being stolen and living outside in a garden.

I have an old Claude Butler that's just over 15 years old, and was given to me by a mate to pay off a debt around 8 years ago.

It's never seen the inside of a house or shed in it's life, a big fat arse aluminium frame, no suspension, brakes that hardly work and best of all, the original tyres!!!! How they still hold together is beyond me! There are more gaps than there is rubber!

Still, get's me to work and back each day, and it's still about half the weight of my mates brand new bike!

I used to own an Orange Vitamin T that I custom spec'd and spent over £2k on. I cycled everywhere and got to overdose level so I sold it for a deposit on a bike with an engine.

I since bought a Carrera Bugaboo or something like that, due to pressure from the missus, then used it twice to cycle to the pub. Thumbs Up
