mac and windows on the same network...

Is it possible to have a mac (g4 maybe) and a windows system hooked up on the same network to share files and folders? I really like the idea of a nice mac system for design/work stuff, and a cheap 100 quid windows system for general use hooked up to the same network to share the same files and pictures.
