right then, next week i am going to have a job review that i should Praying get promoted in, now if i do i will get a offer of a salary increase. what i want to do is increase this as much as possible. i know that what i have to do is show how much a great employee i am and what i give the company.
any other tips to maximise my pay?
cheers

Assuming you were set specific targets by your company, you must show then that you have attained or better still, exceeded them. Equally if they are promotoing you then there must be someone who has done the job before and perhaps you can (discreetly) find out how much they are paid.

Does your company have a grading structure for pay, or is it a small company? If it's the former then they will usually pay you the median (i.e. a salary in the middle )of the grade to give them leeway to award more salary during the year. If it's the latter then the approach should be more informal, and you should stress in your discussion what an invaluable employee you are. If they make an award that is below your expectations (be reasonable here!) then it would be good to express your disappointment. In today's market, given that you are being promoted I'd hazard a guess and say that an increment of c. 15% of your current basic would be a good starting point.

look for another job? , that pays more,

the office banter seems to suggest exactly that with pay rises being 5-8% ,even if said employees take on more responsibilites take exams to increase their skill sets etc

which when starting on a figure floating around 12K , is absolutely peanuts , my sal looks much better than last year though I moved companies , but in reality filters down after tax to about £4 extra a week,

what with the Chancellor moving the allowance bands at below inflation AND freezing bands now and again.

The best thing you can do is get a copy of your job description and point out that not only have you performed all the duties listed but you have taken on other duties as well, preferable ones that point you in the direction of the role your looking at getting promoted to.....has worked for me in the past! Check out recruitment websites to see what other companies are paying for the same role. If you're offered less than the going rate make sure you bring that fact into your negotiations.

i'd highly recomment that a work college thought he was well paid being 18 and on 7.5K for being a book keeper /payroller , I typed in his job with his 2 years experience and AAT + ATT qualification , the going rate for the area of the country was 17K , needless to say he did use this as a beating stick to get his pay bumped up , the boss refused , and made an offer of 9.5K , then 9.7K, which he said OK to (while quietly hunting for a job behind the bosses back).

that said remember this £1000 more a year might sound alot but after tax filters down to about £11 extra a week (up to about 32000K where NI is only 1% instead of 11% on everything above 5150).

Very useful tax calculator - allows you to work out exactly what you'll get in your bank account after tax and NI.
