 |
|
Random thread (c'mon its early in the morning n im bored!)
I seem to have noticed lately that most big bikes that hit the deck usaually damage their engine covers such as the crank case spilling oil everywhere, making a mess and rendering the bike useless.
how come is it that manufacturers build these cases to be so fragile and brittle? from pics the covers errode away very quickly when they kiss the road or just smash when they hit the deck.. just wonder why?
I know there are covers out on the market made from better metal and formed in a better way, just wonder why the hell the manufacturers don't build more sturdier engines ____________________ A scientist crossed a skunk with an owl. He's got a bird that smells but doesn't give a hoot |

You can buy carbon fiber covers as a replacement and they can with stand the impact and grinding, but are only made for popular sports bikes such as the R6 and R1. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Mine are made of Magnesium. I know it's lighter and more expensive but don't know if it's any stronger.

I think not, magnesium is a very soft metal and magnesium wheel and casing damage and corroide very easily. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

You can certainly buy molded carbon fibre stick ons that protect the casing from grinding (and look very trick).
Just only for popular bikes though. Want some for the CBR. The gen cover already grounded when i lowsided, and that WAS with R+g's ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I've found one for £30 The breakers that bought my ZXR have a FZR for breaking, a quick email and its available
I'm buggered if I can get the last bolt undone, copious amounts of WD40 and still nowt
I am suprised that its a part that will get grounded and broken if the bike falls or skids, so why not more available ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Damn you, i just spent £45 notes on that site cos of you
Got a Gen cover (its all ready scratched from a previous lowside and protrudes alot more then anything else) and two of them V-Sponges. Worked out about £7 extra for 2 of them sponges, and since they apparently seem to work really well i should be able to flog one to one of my mates and get a bit back on it. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
