I am interested in taking my DAS sometime in the near future.
I've never even physically touched a motorbike before so I am about as noob as you can get!

I found a company in Northampton (where I live) offering a 5 day course with a guaranteed pass scheme for £499. Price includes all test fees, theory and practical test fees & theory CD-ROM. If I fail the course I only pay for the test fee again. All tuition is free until you pass thereafter.

Is this a good deal?

I suppose it depends on the quality of the tuition, but aside from that it sounds like a good price to me.

I refuse to tot up what it cost me because I failed twice without the luxury of a guaranteed pass scheme! But I definitely paid more than that...

Good luck, it's good fun Thumbs Up

As said depends what you get for your money and the quality/reliability of the instructors and bikes. I'd just check to make sure there aren't any additional bike hire fees (not clear from your post). Does it also include CBT (or do you already have that?). Can they tell you of, or put you in contact with satisfied customers? I know the one I used put up pictures of customers when they came back riding their own bikes after passing. The wall was fulll of them.

Otherwise sounds like a very good price.

Sounds a very good price (mine is £400 for 2 days Shocked , but i liked the sound of them to be honest). I would be a little sceptical for that price, but i guess its in their interest to make sure you pass if its a guaranteed pass scheme, cos it will cost them more in the long run if you need more lessons for free Thumbs Up

Awesome. Thanks for the replies!

Just noticed that tuition is on a 2:1 ration basis. Maybe that is why it seems cheap?! Is this usual practice?

Most, but not all, of my tuition was two learners to one instructor.

I don't feel like I suffered because of this, although the half a day I had one-to-one was very useful, thinking about it. I think most places charge extra for one-to-one training??

Perfectly normal. You wear a radio receiver and go out with an instructor and another student. Instructor normally rides in the middle telling the student in front the directions and instructions. The student at the rear watches and learns then the students swap round. Sometimes instructor will take the lead or act as a shepherd at the rear, depends on road/traffic conditions.

I've sometimes come across a group of 3 and if going the same way positioned my bike to stop the rider at the back being intimidated by car drivers (as having L plates and a day-glo vest despite a 500cc bike doesn't stop them Rolling Eyes).

Hope you have a good time Thumbs Up

That does sound like a good price, mine was about £550 for 5 days.
Just make sure all is included - CBT etc and would be good to hear about past customers.

2 to 1 tuition seems normal, that's what I had and it probably helps to have somone else learning with you to gauge against and talk to. Sometimes you're in front being watched by the instructor and other times you get a bit of a break following instructor and watching which is usually a nice rest from the pressure.

Good luck with it. Like you I did mine last April from no experience and have been out riding ever since loving every minute. Thumbs Up
