Ok, in brief:
We meet in Ashford on Thursday 30th Aug in the evening and stop in a Travel Inn for the night.
Get an early start on the 1st Sept for a crossing at about 8am. Ride down to the Nevers area(ish) - about 350miles and stop in a Formule1 for the night.

2nd Sept - Ride the rest of the way to the villa (near Marselles(sp?)) via the wonderfull bridge at Milau. (about 300miles).

3rd-7th Sept - Who knows, get lost in France somewhere!

8th Sept - head back north via somewhere to be decided yet, stop evernight somewhere.

9th Sept - Ride rest of the way north and make the crossing. Those that are brave can push on home, those that aren't can stop at a Travel Inn or similar.

The Villa is costing us about £550 for the week, so that divided between us will be about £100 each. The Travel Inn is (at the moment) £40ish a room and we have 2 booked, so that's about £15 per person. The Formule1's are €30 per room per night and can be shared by 3 adults, so that's another £7 each way. Ferry Crossing is about £40 return if we book ASAP.

So that's about £170 plus petrol (who knows how much) and food/drinks money (again, who knows?).

Be warned, this is not a speed test of our bikes across France. It is (hopefully) going to be a relaxed ride through some fun countryside Thumbs Up

If you want to come just say so and the place is yours. I will need to know your name, address, date of birth and bike make/model/reg so I can book the ferries ASAP.

If the old man has got his bike by then, count me in.

I cant seem to remember if you need a passport to go on the continent, can anyone clear that up?

If you do, Ill need one sharpish.

Why would the old man having his bike make a difference?
If you do decide to come, you will probably have to book your own crossing and meet us over there (I need to book our crossings ASAP).
As for the passport, yes - you do need one.

We had been planning to go this august, but then the house fire and it had to be cancelled. So, he would have to come to.

Yes, it's the Thursday, so the 31st.

We don't have anything planned to meet up at the moment, but I have no doubt that we will all get together again. I'm quite happy to have another little BBQ at my place Thumbs Up

I'm thinking a few options..

I'm only a couple of hours from Dover, so might just leave early on the friday morning and meet you all at the port, rather than spend money on a hotel room,

the pure-mad-mental alternative is, (because I don't have paid holidays, and a day not worked is a day I earn no money) would be to get a late night ferry on friday night/saturday morning, and horse it down to Marseilles and catch up with you all down there (hopefully before you do the bridge Wink )

do any of you guys have bike-to-bike intercom/radio systems?

I've got Kenwood PMR radios, one is in the FJR.

We do have radios, but weren't planning on taking them. Still, nothing to stop us though.

As for the Hotel room on the Thusday, I have 2 rooms booked at a Travel Inn. They sleep 3 adults for £45 a night, so only £15 a head.

Still, if you do come, it's up to you where and when you meet us Thumbs Up

Pesronally don't think the 'one day' option is viable - it's 650 miles on the French side, and that would be on top of the ride from your place. I doubt you'd want to ride the next day if you did that. Still, it's your body, and no-one knows it as well as you do.

Feef,

Like Hippy said, its a bastard of a ride in one go that !!

I'm coming from S.Wales, Hippy and Mrs Hippy from Bath(ish) so we've got a fair ride just to Dover, which is why we're laying up on Thursday night.

Stu is coming from Poole, not sure of his movements yet (oo-er, you know what I mean), but it isnt certain that he's staying over on Thursday, or even if he's crossing with us, so maybe you and him could hook up and we could meet you in sunny (better be bloody sunny) France.

Stu - If you're listening, get in touch mate so we can sort things.

I reckon we should definitely get together soon-ish anyway to make final arrangements. I'm getting very concious that we have to pay the balance of the Cottage etc... by the end of July, which will be here in no time.

THCi - Get yourself sorted with a passport mate, get the wheels in motion and see how long it'll take, we leave in about 9 weeks which should be plenty of time. If not you can doorstep the passport office and they issue you one that day.

Sort your old man out with a bike (or take him pillion) mate, theres a ready made trip here for you, we've done all of the leg work, and its nice and cheap.

But let us know ASAP mate please.

Feef, are you definitely in then? Or do you want to meet us 1st (understandable mate, but we're all normal-ish honest) Rolling Eyes
