I've owned a Bandit 600 for a few months, now I've got the chance to ride a Fazer 600. Has anyone had experience of both of these machines.?. and can give me a comparison based on their real experiences. Too many people just look at the specs for machines and make their minds up there and then.

I'm talking handling, city fuel consumption, build quality etc... personaly experiences only please!

Cheers dudes

I Owned a 2004 bandit 600s, dad owns a 2000' Fazer 600s

The bandit felt a bit "flatter" and more bouncy than the fazer, a little less powerfull too.

Fazer is much lighter and certainly better handling with more ground clearence, looks are down to opinion.

I prefer the fazer over the bandit.

fazer beats the bandit in performance, but will loose out when its time for servicing.

paint and fixings certainly. But id rate the bandits motor over the fazer for longevity (having owned both types of motrs albeit in different frames.

I would go with that.

The bandit has a dead simple air cooled lump dating back to the iron age, its cheap...tried and tested.

lmao

its actually a pretty sophisticated oilcooled lump, capable of being tuned far in the excess of what the fazers lump is, but people forget that.

GSXR750 1985-1992 and the GSXR1100 1986-1993 have more or less the same lump, the 1100 lump can be made to kick out over 200bhp

aircooled iron age indeed......

Yeah but there is a reason I sold my bandit to get a ZX6R...

...oh yeah about 30+hp worth reasons. Wink

Not to forget the handling differance.

it is a bit fay in stock trim. But a nice 1127cc 135 rear wheel horsepower GSXR1100 motor slots straight into the bandit frame. If your brave.

I've got quite limited experience so I'm not sure if my opinion counts for much.
I've been riding for less than a year but during that time I've done about 23,000 miles on an old '97 bandit 600. It was cheap to buy, a straight grand with 14,000 miles on the clock. It's been a real work horse and has required bugger all maintenance. I get about 10 miles per litre out of it which works out at about 45 mpg. I've given it oil and filter changes approx every 5,000 miles and it seems happy with that. I've had a couple of niggles with it but nothing expensive. Bought a brake caliper from a brakers for £25 (I think, can't remember, it may have been £20) rather than pee about trying to repair one that I'd messed up due to neglect. I've recently had a new chain and sprockets fitted which has transformed the bike. Also, I have a little safety switch thingy on order. There's probably a technical name for it but it stops the bike from starting if the clutch lever isn't pulled in. It'll be here early next week but meanwhile I've just put the wires together so that I can still use the bike. My bike isn't a fashion accessory, I need it to be reliable above all else. It fits that purpose and it's adequate but it isn't about to turn any heads in a million years.

I've only had 2 rides on a fazer 600 and covered in total about 100 miles. During those 100 miles the fazer gave me the impression of being a much better bike than the bandit. Performance wise it just seemed to have that bit extra. As far as running costs and reliability go I'm sorry, I don't have a bleedin' clue.

Bandit felt heavy and unbalanced to pick up, but i've neaver ridden one. (New) fazer is quite comfy, the bars seam too high and doesnt have as much punch as the hornet.
Hornet = beter bild than both, better performance, and look nicer. Fule comsumption is a little higher, I still get 110 miles between fill ups, but i rairly hit reserve.

(ps my hornet is for sale Laughing)

I like reading threads like this when I've just put a deposit down on a nearly new Fazer 6.

But seriously, it does seem to be a very smooth machine.

Can someone start up Busa thread like this... I nearly dropped myself in debt for years today at the local Suzuki dealer...

Agreed Thumbs Up

I prefer the fazer also over the bandit, I know a guy who has one and it does look more stylish and better build than the bandit.
jay, why you selling your hornet ?

I've decided having 3 bikes and a crap car is a bit silly. So i'm selling the hornet and car to get a beter car. The CBR isnt in one peice and not worth enough to make selling it worth while and the 675 is too new to sell so the hornet was the only real choice.
Wish i could keep him but it doesnt make much sence at the moment.

I'd go for a Bandit over a Fazer, no matter how much I like the Yamaha brand.

Bandit engine is fully proven, having been used since 1988 in the GSX600F, and it can trace its roots before then in the 1985 GSXR750 and earlier.

OK they build quality might be crap, but with some TLC they can look as good as any bike.

Also Bandits are far cheaper to service and a hell of alot easier to upgrade, it seems not alot of companies specialise on Fazer upgrades.
