Hi guys:

I have my CBT, I've had it since the start of March and I am very eager to pass my full license in order to be able to carry pillion passengers mainly (my girlfriend Smile )

I just have a few questions which I'd really appreciate if anyone could help with:

The fee for booking the theory test according to DSA is 21.50 Does this include both the theory test and the hazard perception test?

Looking at the website for the same company I did my CBT with, it seems they only offer day courses to be able to do my test. These are hundreds of pounds - I can't possibly afford this. My mum (who is in to motorcycles) said that it is possible to just do my test, with no prior tuition - which would be a lot cheaper. And since I've taught myself on the road for the last 5 months with no problems I feel I am capable of passing. Is it possible to just do my test, and how much would it cost roughly?

Whilst I am very confident with my riding abilities, I don't know for sure if I am able to ride "by the book". You know, all the lifesavers and stuff. Are there any websites which perhaps have a reminder of all the little rules you need to know to pass your test?

Any help and me love you long time.

Thanks,

Dan

hi

the price is for both parts of the theory test.

you do your full test on a 500cc bike. suzuki gs500e or similar with a authorised test center.

it would probably be better to go see a reputable instructor because the gap between cbt and das is massive you learn a whole new way of riding in my opinion.
the cbt is about being safe the full test goes more into riding properly.

go see an instructor, most training centers will alow you to pay weekly or monthly if u cant stump up the cash in one hit.

Since someone mentioned DAS - can I just ask: How old are you (more specifically, are you over 21)?

As to all those things you need to do, try getting a copy of these (try EBay first):

You can take your test on a bigger bike than usual if you're older than 21, this means you waive the 33BHP 2 year restriction period if you pass

(If you're younger than 21, you have to take your "A2" test on a 125cc bike capable of 62.5mph, when you've passed you can buy any bike, but you have to fit a restrictor kit to it to stop it producing over 33BHP, after 2 years, you can remove the kit and ride any full power bike you want).

Ok thanks. How much do you think that the A2 test will cost (Just the A2 test alone, no tuition) - and also is the A2 test... 'difficult'

About £58 and "Is it difficult" isn't the right question to ask Smile

You need to ask yourself if you're riding to a test standard.

It's so difficult, Toby R has been putting it off for years. You'd think they attach electrodes to your testicles or something.

Heh, when I asked if it was difficult, I meant are they strict when it comes to things like the Lifesaver and stuff.

I'm very confident with my riding abilities but I can't remember most of the little rules... Do you think that someone with 5 month experience on a 125cc bike is likely to pass the full category A license?

I know obviously everyone is different but just a general guess would really, really help Smile

Also if anyone knows any good websites for revising for your theory test I'd appreciate that too (Sorry I haven't searched yet)

Your mum is right. You can pass without any tuition and if you feel that you are honestly competent, you are half way there.

Book your theory then book your practical (mine was 53 a few months back but I think it has gone up now) and start practising from now!

Read everything test related on this forum and ask questions you aint sure about. Dont fuck around! do everything by the book all the time until you pass. If you dont pass 1st time the examiner will tell you why.

That dont mean to say that you dont do everything by the book when you have passed but at least its up to you aint it Wink

Helpful stuff - thanks for the advice Rit (and everyone else).

I've booked my Theory test for the 7th of July, and if that goes well I'll be booking my practical shortly after.

Wish me luck Smile
