Hi Folks

Did a quick search but couldn't find any previous on this topic. Now of course we all slow down for roadworks out of respect for the workers on the motorway, but does anyone know whats what with those front facing yellow average speed cameras that are popping up everywhere on those blue poles?

Logic dictates that the powers that be clearly trust bikers to be reasonable about this so take front photos of our less considerate 4-wheel friends, but some spokesperson said in an article (probably MCN uh-huh!!) that they had ways of catching the bikers .... blowin' smoke maybe?

What do you reckon? Is there a secret swivel-round-and-nick-the-biker setting on those Wink

Cheers

They're called SPECS cameras and they read the front numberplate of a car, whilst making a timestamp. They then do the same thing at the next camera and use the distance between them and the time difference to work out the vehicle's average speed. Over the speed limit and you get done.

No way of them getting a bike. Yet.

Hi,

While the absence of front plates means the automatic system cannot get you if they think there is a persistant offended they have been known to send a polcie car to watch. (so do not give them the finger)

Regards

The cameras that hang of bridges that can get your identity someway or another. Put a cd on the front of your bike inside the screen and it reflects the light and the camera takes a pic of its insides

... If a bike has gone through a speed trap that has got a fairly good image of the bike with a time stamp, it not beyond the realms of possibilty that v local cctv footage or cctv room could get your numberplate from another camera. Obviously it all depends on what the image of you is like and how bothered they are.

I'm not involved with road policing so I can't say for definate, but don't speed :p Plus if car drivers see you blatantly speeding while they've got to watch themselves it'll just wind them up even more, making life difficult for the next biker they come accross.

Aparently this stops police with the hairdriers (radar guns Razz ) from catching you speeding because i am told it reflects the 'laser' that comes from the radar guns.

But then i think this is total bollocks to put it bluntly because don't the police aim at your number plate (something flat)

But its orrite for us bikers, in a way because we don't have anything flat on the front but they can get our reg as we ride past Sad

From memory it was just the "urban myths" they tested about legal ways to beat radar and laser traps.

Things like the CD's. Remote controls, Matt Black paint (!!!) etc...

The logic behind matt black paint is that it absorbs all imcoming light, PURE matt black does. But, there aint no such thing.

Shame it dont work though! Rolling Eyes

well there are jammers of sorts , unfortunately they are military technology not allowed for public consumption except in the US , where if you stumble across something in a junk yard its yours! , (theres a story about this American guy who found a B58 hustler engine in a junk yard , rebuilt it and tried to get a manual for it , and the USAF tried to take it back but did not suceed, this became the green monster car and it broke lots of records).

A notable one is on the Ah-64 Apache , look just behind the main rotor and theres this cylinder thing looks like an oil filter or maybe a can of coke , its a jammer of sorts nick named a disco ball or something.

Which bit? , the B58 Hustler engine or the apache?

the B58 Hustler engine story was from a CH4 proggie around November last year about mans search for speed and competing nuts who built faster and faster cars.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Monster_%28car%29

(note the B58 hustler used the same engine as the starfighter, but 4 of them),Art Arfons , is more gutsy than stinkwheel and rebuilt a top secret military engine.

The apache info is public domain you can read about it on fas.org or at least used to and Ricky , somebody I worked with years ago , his company was approached to produce a fully fledged apache simulator , it was 40% complete (which had a 1:1 scale apache cockpit and engine frame to simulate restricted vision) , then his wife left him and it was a very messy divorce which she took everything of his and sold it for a pittance the company collasped and the project died.

he emigrated soon after to NZ.

The CD thing is another 'urban myth' won't work and never has. The people that use them mostly truckers in this area are just gullable. If you tell them a rotting peach in their window will stop speed scameras working, they would hang one up. Rolling Eyes
