Ello all..

Last summer my dainese summer gloves disintergrated more or less in time for winter to arrive (and they really didn't last long, allthough they were great while they did last)

So am on the lookout for some new ones, no more than £40 not over bothered about kevlar/carbon fiber, but if it does it shouldnt dig in (like some ive tryed in the past)

Any reccomendations? + concerned about how to get the right size? (if i can't try them out)

Spada allways do well in tests.

I have alpinestars SP2 gloves and use them in all weathers etc all year around and are now a year old and still good and held together.

But they were about £60 (reccomended from BCF)

Failing that go for spada as I have allready said.

Alpinestars SMX - (?) can't remmy what number they are, but have pretty good protection and are very vented, bargain at £35 new off ebay, or prolly a few quid more at a shop.
Let us know what you get.

My leather Hein Gerricke jobbys were about 30squid I think. They are not armoured but in my opinion armour in gloves is not really that important - Just a marketing gimick. There are no ventilation holes in them but I have not had any problems riding in 40 degree heat.

how bad an idea is it to just ride in normal (non bike) thick leather gloves from a high street shop in ths summer? I'm just thinking it's not like you slide along on your hands in a crash like you would the rest of your body. Theirs a large artery near your thumb ain't their I seem to remember someone saying, which if severed can cause you to bleed to death pretty sharpish? That's the only serious reason for proper armoured bike gloves that comes to mind?

Alpinestars SP1 for me - I know they're a little above your £40 limit, but they've been sooo good I'd be unlikely to wear anything else now Wink
Also heard good things about Hein Gericke own brand gloves if you're watching the pennies without sacrificing safety. Thumbs Up

My main advice though would be to go and try some on before you buy, cos as with most kit, different manufacturers have different ideas about what an "average" size is.

www.customlids.co.uk - they stock most alpinestars models, you can get some good quality cuff-less summer gloves there and have change from 40 quid Thumbs Up

What about ripping and tearing the nerves in your fingers and losing the ability to write/pick stuff up/type and being reliant on others for the rest of your life? I'd say thats a more important reason than the unlikely event of bleeding to death from your thumb - think about it, there's very little blood going to your thumb, its not like the jugular or wrist.

I got some Richa ones, carbon knuckles with plenty padding behind them, extra leather on the knuckles, they survived 2 crashes, and i havent felt a thing, even after punching the curb.

£40 they set me back, no vents or anything, but they're cool due to the lack of lining, and put some thinsulate gloves inside come winter and they're nice and toasty Thumbs Up

Ello all Smile

Thanks for all the replys, thought i'd let ye all know, i ended up getting some of these, there frank thomas "cafe racer" gloves, from clay cross, they fit perfect and i got £5 knocked off the £30 asking price cause a small and quite pointlss bit of elasctic band thing was snapped.

Off to give them a try Thumbs Up (big relief from the huge winter gloves!)
