Hmmm probably shouldn't be 'shopping' for something i haven't got yet.

But i like the idea of an R6 rear on an FZR400.
I know it can be done, i been reading walk throughs Laughing

Wondering if anyone has any going cheap? damage is ok (as long as is can be repaired)
Got any you dont want G? Razz
Cheers

Which bit?

And I got pretty much all of it - swing arms, wheel, sub frame, road and race rear fairings etc Smile.

Of course I should say that you should stop being a tart and just ride ya' bike (that you don't have yet, I presume) Smile.

Planning on getting it in october, then setting it aside to have a play with it Thumbs Up And insuring it around march next year. All nice and sparkly.

The tail plastics, and the bit that goes under the tail (above the wheel) Get what i mean? Preferably road plastics Thumbs Up

Will pay in either sexual favours, or money, which ever you prefer Thumbs Up

This is the conversion, its for a race bike but im sure it would work for road fairings too - https://www.madsi.co.uk/fairing.aspx

PM Markcatate or Barry MC21, they both had (or had the same bike Thinking) a FZR400 with the intention of putting an R6 kit on it.

I have seen a gas tank that was for sale that had been adapted for an R1 / R6 tail, so it is possible. Not sure what would be needed to change one fairing to fit a different bike.

It WOULD look the nuts Thumbs Up

Its a shame he gave up on it, would have looked very cool.

I have started stripping my FZR600 down and will hopefully be cleaning, painting, rebuilding into a better bike Confused Its threads like that one and more recently others that have spurred me on and hopefully be a good resource.

Cheers BCF and all her members.

Maybe we should do the same conversion? Help eachother through kind of thing. AFAIK they are basically the same frame, with a different lump in there (may differ slightly between models though)

So G, think you can help me with the tail plastics?

Thumbs Up

When I've done some more I will post a thread in the show and tell section.

So, you got your heart on the 400 then?

Barry got a lot further than me with the fairings.

I had an R6 rear unit, it fits on quite easily, you just need to drill new holes in the subframe and make brackets for the rear. If your using it on the road then you can get R6 undertrays with lights which will make it look cool.

Really like the FZR4/R6 look, wish i kept at mine, although its still in my garage. Thinking

The front fairings go on quite well too, you need to cut a bit of the front by the front wheel as it rubs but nothing too hard.

I would say go for it, they look the nuts. Cool

In all honesty, there would be more point stuffing a fzr400 engine into an r6 and then once you've had your fun, put the 600 engine back in. Rolling Eyes

pleas just for one moment stop and think about practicaities. you are young. insurance will rape you anyway.

doing this will mean most companies wont cover you. those that do, will charge plenty.

You going to tell the insurance of all your cosmetic mods?

I jsut see it as a fruitless exercise thats all - Making a dog of a bike with an old nackered engine into something that resembles a fast, modern day bike - but having no go. Confused

I was just thinking it would tidy up the boxy rear.
zxr400er done something similar and imo it turned out quite sexy.

And after getting a quick go on a nc30 yesterday, id say a 400 will have enough power for me for a while Thumbs Up

400's are fine to learn on although you will get bored of the fzr in everyday riding quickly as its only a 50-60hp motor.

I hear the 1000 exup fits in with a bit of work. Cool

plus any subframe changes, etc...

its not like a "small" mod like an exhaust. you are fundamentally playing with the bikes setup. insurance companies will see such a mod as making the bike into a "custom job" (i.e. not a standard manufactured bike). this will mean it is a risk many companies will not cover.

btw, not telling your insurance would be stupid. uprated suspension you can deny knowledge of. but an R6 rear end....its kinda obvious. even to a more intellectually challenged claims assesor. They would then invalidate your insurance (not pay out....police may be able to prosecute you if you had crashed)

don't mean to rain on your parade. but sorry. as a financial excercise, it really isnt worth it.

Maybe have a look at early SV650s models. can be picked up cheapish, and they normally cost less to insure than a 400cc sports bike aswell. same power pretty much aswell. spent £120 on an SV and the suspension will be fairly good too Thumbs Up (certainly as good as a 16 year old sportsbike anyway!)

Got my heart set on a 400, sat on one and it felt right.

sat on an sv and it felt comfy, but theres 4/5 in my area already, and only one 400 that i know of.

Plus the 400 im getting seems a bargain.

When im bored of it ill make it a track whore or something Laughing

I had an FZR250. That went quite well when it was reliable!

Parts where the bummer! Cost me £30 for a light bulb when it went!
