Coming home from a great day at the MotoGP yesterday evening.
We came into Co Durham and met a police road block, they had closed the road for an accident. I looked up the road and they were lifting what seemed like a biker into the back of a van, no ambulances were there. Looked at the news today and it was confirmed. https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/5139816.stm

Really did sober me up to see that. Might go leave some flowers today on my ride out.

RIP fellow biker and local. Crying or Very sad Karma

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really have feelings when people I don't know, or have any connection with die.
People die every day, you need to detatch yourself from worrying about everyone elses life and concentrate on your own.

Like I said, maybe it's just me.

I'm usually unemotional and couldn't give a toss about other peoples misfortune but seeing him laying there was a bit Neutral

If it was a car crash I wouldnt of given it a second thought.

i tend to wonder if the dead biker was being sensible or not. If not I tend to think he knew the risks. If I think he was being sensible and just got unlucky, i worry for myself.

Fortunately I usually assume that the dead bike was taking unnecessary risks.

Like the 20 year old night club bouncer in my town who died after hitting a lamp post late at night.

I think dead biker stories help me to stay non-risky pics especially.

"lost control of his Suzuki bike"

Should read: "lost control of Suzuki GSXR1000, which he had purchased the week before".

If he had been in a non-fault accident with a car, then I would feel empathy, but the way the article is wrote it seems his fault.

People die, thats life. You can either go through life avoiding risks and probably live longer or take certain risks, live the life you have and hope that your skill and knowledge gets you through sticky situations.

This man was obviously unlucky, i dont really feel much for him but it does make you think a little before taking the same risks.

Hawks.

Empathy only goes so far.

It's a tossup between Empathy and "There but for the grace of God" etc...I feel bad that someone has bitten the big one, but it mainly serves to wake me back up enough to make me check what I'm up to!

Anyone of us could be the next stat, and all for various reasons, but the pointer of having a 1000cc bike and being dead the next could point to a tad of over-exuberance, followed by "Oh shi..." and then not a lot more...

I'd be interested to know what the road was like, or if he was riding a comparable bike before he got this one, or had just passed DAS etc.

I got on my 750 after a 5 year gap, and was very edgy - then jumped on the 1300 "zero throttle play" busa I have now, and so far haven't caused anything myself, but have been knocked off already! (whilst stationery).

I'm still at the useful stage of being concious to know I'm not good, and therefore be over-cautious, rather than unconciously bad, and screw up Smile (I hope!)

The road from Barnard Castle up and over Egglestone Moor towards High Force is quite good, bit bumpy at times but very scenic.
