how do i convert avi files so that my pc will play a film that im downloading from limewire

Convert them to what? .div? .wmv?

You can usually find converters kicking around.

You don't need to convert anything to watch it on your PC. AVI files will run on the PC assuming you have the right codec. Try doing a search for CODEC PACKS in Google and downloading one of them you'll probably find the AVI file will suddenly start working after that's installed.
The only need to convert from AVI is to burn it to a DVD and watch it on a TV and standalone DVD player in which case you have to convert it to MPEG. Do a search for TMPGENC or use Nero to do this conversion.

It converts any movie format to any other format ( handy for making your own dvd's )
