Okay, ive recently aquired a yamaha Jog r moped for about 150 pounds, 52 plate, got 4 months mot and no tax. the other day it got vandalized and somebody ripped out my rear light, broke my seat bucket, and broke my seat lock they also smashed off the front speedo plastics. the bike is in hell of a state, so im thinking of stripping it down to a bare frame reducing the loom, and getting it daytime mot'd. all i need for a daylight mot is a horn, rear reflector, and a number plate! This thread is going to be very pic heavy

Plan of action

Remove the rest of the panels that havent been smashed off by thugs.

Reduce the loom (may require some help)

Paint the frame up nicely / get it powdercoated

New piston as compression is quite low but still runs well

New Airbox

And then run it through a daytime MOT

As this is my second project ever i may need some help and questions answered.

here is the bike as it stands

Thankyou

Thumbs Up

Got some more done today, but being the idiot i am, ive chopped the front end of the loom off like the bits i dont need (igniton barrel/horn/indicator relay/switchgear) and just left it with the cdi loom ignition coil and the wiring that goes to the stator or into the top of the casing. if you can make any sense out of the pictures of the loom please help me out, i have a brown wire left not connecte to anything, and a black and white one left not conencted to anything.

You say you cut the ignition barrel... why firstly.

Also have you since joined the ignition wires...?

Well when it got vandalized they had a go at the ignition barrel so they key was useless (the bike isnt stolen you can see my logbook in my seat in one of the pictures) if thats what you were thinking.

i took the igniton barrel off, disconnected the boot cable, and disconected the igniton block, surely after ive disconnected the block, it should start, i always used to 'aquire' my mates chinese ped and hide it by doing this, stick your hand up by the igniton barrel on the inside of the panels, unplug the ignition block and kick it over, im not getting any spark. do you think if i connect the brown and black/white wire together?

this is how i think it works, you kick it over, which spins the stator, which produces a current through to the cdi which then tells the coil when to spark? dont think im right, this is where im stuck :/

That only works on the most basic of bikes.

Wasn't implying you stole it Laughing

You need the ignition set back up.. you can just join the right wires and kick it over... chinese peds may do it... but I'm sure the japs are far superior when it comes to electrical systems Laughing

You went hacking about without thinking Laughing Could have just removed the lights, snipped connections and used heatshrink... but hey.

If you can find a wiring diagram in the workshop forum bonus as you can take the entire loom off and work on it.
