... well 2:30pm today I did the practical test.
In the morning I had a ride about with the instructor and everything was fine. Struggled with the u-turn the week before but no probs today.
On test a few nerves kicked in. Soon relaxed and went off. Did the u-turn fine again. The examiner was in a car and asked me to pull in front. Did that and he asked me to ride on. Couldn't see so edged out and went to do a life saver but he was already saying "car coming" over the intercom!!!! 1 serious.
Emergency stop was ok. Hill start ok. Pulling out behind a parked car was fine.
Went along the A5 and went up to 70mph as soon as I could. Later on I was on a road and didn't know the speed limit. I stayed at 30mph. Only when I was overtaken I realised it must be quicker. Couldn't see any road signs tho. So another serious - failing to progress.
6 other minor faults... Ah b0||0x!
Got to wait 10 days and probably another 3 months before I can get time off work. proper p1ssed off with myself!!! |

I started a new job and had major hassle with getting a day off for the theory. Booked it, cancelled it so many times. Then had to give 3 months notice for today as business is pretty busy at the mo - which is a good and bad thing! Only been able to do my DAS lessons every other weekend.
Wouldn't fancy doing the U on the NSR! I was on a GS5. Just gave myself that little bit longer riding along before going into the turn which sorted it for me.
Good luck as well !
We'll all get there!! |

In practice you can turn out of a 30mph side street into a 40mph main road but there isn't a 40mph sign untill pretty far down the road, by which time you've failed. The doubt is the worst bit. When you are almost sure it should be a 40 but do 30 just in case untill you see a sign. I just managed to save it by hovering at 35. |
If you go from a 30mph side street to a 40mph road, there should be a sign at the junction that says 40mph (on the other side it will say 30mph so that people don't turn onto the side street and continue at 40mph).
Basically, carry on at the speed of the last sign you passed. If you're unsure of the limit on a road:
If there are streetlights, it's a 30mph limit unless there are regular small repeater signs.
If there are no streetlights, it's a 60mph limit (70mph on a dual carriageway) unless there are regular repeaters.
If roads aren't signposted correctly*, the entire limit is not enforceable and it reverts to either 30 or 60/70 as mentioned above. That probably won't help you on a test, but could get you off a speeding charge.
* there are specific rules about the shape of signs, colour of backgrounds, frequency of repeaters and lighting of signs in proximity to other lighted signs that are often not followed to the letter of the law. ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

Monday night I spent 3 hours checking out as many road as I could in the test area. Missed that one!
It was quite a long road and when overtaken I crept up to 35mph. Then in the distance I could see it changed to a 40mph. So I must have been in a 60mph limit! Kept thinking when I first got on it... Is it a 60? Maybe it's a 40? I'll stay at 30 until a speed sign pops up... Doh!! Yes the doubt is the worst part!
I really don't have much luck! It all goes a pisser |
