Used to be in the Royal Green Jackets (about ten years ago). Excellent problem (so long as you can take orders/abuse!) and don't mind giving up a lot of your spare time.

From memory he should be getting around £20 a day (as a lowly grunt). He'll get two and a half days for a weekend away (Friday night 'till Sunday afternoon) and about half a day for an evening at the drill hall (midweek). He should also get travel expenses.

its good until you get called up due to the fact army recruitment has collasped ie YOU WILL get called up ,

and remember the law has changed meaning the UK government won't defend your job so that an employer is perfectly entitled to sack you and hand you your P45 once you get called up,

you are however perfectly entitled to sue your ex boss using your own lawyer and own money - which is of course a bad thing as bosses hate trouble makers and people who sue their bosses tend never to work ever again,

of all the shite temp jobs and longer job I have now they've started putting questions on them which must be answered truthfully , stuff like did you leave your last work place on good terms? (suing is defo not good).

if you really wanna go I have a good supplier of trauma plates for the heart and lungs £200 a pop , ex Israeli

A basic private gets £30.96 per day. This increases with the more training you do.
If you get called up you dont have to actually go to iraq if you dont want to Laughing

The mere fact that you join the TA signifies that you are prepared to serve your Country. We can compulsorily mobilise you although this is not something we take lightly. There are also opportunities to volunteer to be mobilised as an individual and it may surprise you to know that there are many Territorial Army personnel and Individual Reservists currently serving in Iraq.

Exactly.

Now imagine (as with now, in Iraq) they call up 1000 soldiers who possess skills they're missing in the battlefield, and 850 of them say "No thanks". What would have been the point in paying for them to be trained? Moreover it would leave the Government more undermanned than they initially thought. And the last stats I saw (years ago admittedly) claimed that the TA made up 1/3 of the armed forces. That's a hell of a lot of man power to leave to chance.

Used to be in Hartlepool's Royal engineers. We were based at the same station as the Royal signals.

It was a good laugh. We all went on loads of training weekends and weeks out at regular army bases to do more training and have mock battles with the regular paratroopers.

We did loads of other stuff like ride army crosser bikes, Rifle shooting, battlefield first aid and loads of other stuff that you would learn ing the regular army except that it is more relaxed and you don't have an a5sehole sergent shouting at you all the time.

It was a good time. I recommend it. Thumbs Up

You WILL NOT be called up unless you have had 2 years regular army training at least!

Let's say that there is another war, but starts to escalate to very large death tolls.

Arrow The members of the TA will be drafted into the regular army for 2 years training BEFORE being sent to war!

Arrow Members of the public that are unable to fight due to illness or being unfit for duty will be drafted into the TA (homeguards) to serve incase the country is invaded until the regular army arrive to deal with the situation. (a backup defence if you like)

Arrow The only time that you will be drafted straight to war without the 2 years training (maybe only 12 weeks or something) is if the war has reached massive death tolls and CONSCRIPTION has to be declared.

I was told this by the brigadier and the Colonel of the TA armed forces!

careful if your thinking of joining and refusing to go overseas, the forces take a dim view of that.

Locked someone up for being AWOL the other week, boy was he in trouble.

How does that work? You'd either have to have a very long war or good psychic skills! Confused

When the government feels that a war might be imminent, the transfer begins.

The 2 years period is a compromise between:

Arrow The length of time they feel it take for a regular joe to be properly trained to kill and not be killed

and

Arrow The estimated time it would take for all of our current soliders that will be physically fighting to be all killed if we, for some reason, were getting absolutely cained out in battle.

But surely we are talking about people already in the TA, not your average bloke down the pub. Besides, I still find that length of time difficult to believe; regs are not kept away from all hot spots for their first two years.

Well, believe it. Even if you are in the regular army, you will NOT be sent to war unless you have served in the army for at least 2 years.

You can take that to the bank.
