Haven't seen it posted before and thought it looks interesting:
https://www.garmin.com/zumo

Looks quite intelligently 'designed' with more features than the Tom Tom from what I know.

Too late for me as I'm now still trying to get maps onto a GPSMAP 60.

The zumo will not be available in the U.S. until the autumn. So I'm guessing sometime in 2007 for the rest of the world, maybe. At the launch at Laguna Seca there were only 3 working units available for demo.

Still, looks like an alternative to the TomTom Rider, providing the price is right.

Don't know if it's just me but GPS units appear expensive for what you're getting, considering the technology has been around ages and there should be now getting cheaper because of the numbers sold.

Thumbs Up

Problem with the Zumo is the price! It's gonna be around the £600 mark which is just wayyy to expensive. Even tomtom have had to reduce their price quite considerably to start making sales.

Hopefully Garmin will learn and they will reduce the price. There have been one or two on ebay but too many people know about them now so the price goes through the roof!

What problems are you having G? I've got a 60csx and got the maps on no problem, (its a slow transfer process!!) or are you just trying to 'get hold' of some maps??!!

I'm trying to get hold of an unlock code - there is one for my GPS, but it's registered to the previous owner.

They have apparantly sent him an email with it in, but I bet it's to a different or old email address, or something.

the prices, for what you are getting, are pretty good to be honest.
GPS has been around for ages but when you consider that just five years ago a system of the quality we have today would set you back a few thousand pounds then todays prices are pretty good.

the trouble is though that GPS is constantly being developed so although most people just assume GPS is GPS the difference between todays models and those of a few years ago are far vast so we're still paying for the development of new systems.

the zumo looks smart but ive never been a fan of garmin (conjours up images of beardies...like MACs do).

Iwas going to buy a tom tom rider, but the reviews didnt indicate it was a very good device, instead I brought a TomTom 100 (the slim line one) so I could use on the car and the bike was £299 ( you can get them cheaper ) all I've got to do now is buy the mounting bracket for my bike ( Same one as tom tom rider - i think ).

Only thing is its not water proof, however ~ how often do I ride in the rain Smile

hey mate. the RIDER and the ONE (its not called the 100) have very different mounts so dont buy one. you will need something like this which will need modifying as there no specific bike mount for a ONE.

So the guts of the unit is actually the same? Plus there's bike mounts available? Very interesting. I also like the Sony Nav-U. but again the finding some sort of bike mounting is proving a problem.
