classic bikes? need help :S

my mum is looking for a classic bike. she used to own a honda cb250 and would love another one.
i have recently seen one on ebay but shes worried about parts and if she can obtain them. not knowing much about classic bikes myself im wondering if you all can help me out.

Give Fowlers of Bristol a ring. I realise you're nowhere near there, but they claim to be the largest part stockest in Europe. I'm pretty sure they do mail order, too. If they do stock CB250 parts then at least you'll know you can get them from somewhere.

I also imagine that there will be plenty of breakers breaking CB250s as well. You may also find lots of parts back on eBay.

Big thumbs up for David Silvers for me too. If you phone them up, they get the parts diagrams up on screen in front of them so you can even usually manage to describe a part you don't know the name of. The guys know what they are talking about too.

I ordered some parts for my H100, one of which was a header pipe. He asked if I wanted a packing gasket too. Turns out this part was missing from mine, I didn't even know it was supposed to be there and it certainly explains why it was blowing so much smoke from odd places.

I also bought one of those little metal cylinders your brake cable adjuster goes through. Didn't know what it was called but we managed to find it on the diagram from my description (it's a 'trunnion' apparently).

Superdream parts aren't all that expensive.

Why not buy a half decent one and a shitter for spare? Keep your eye out for a 400 superdream, they look exactly the same and are much better bikes than the 250s.

seems you can get owt on ebay these days. i recently bought a cb750 and so far pretty much all the major parts have shown up on ebay Smile

ive got a 250 superdream sitting in my garage. Its not been moved in the 22 years ive been alive but is still in relatively good nick. Are they decent bikes then? they look big and slow.....

The earliest ones were flying machines, they got slower and slower as time went on, culminating in the CB two fifty which is dog slow.

The CB250N Superdream (which come somewhere in the middle of the production run) is iconic for being mediocre.

Similar in many ways to the Ford Escort. Early ones were fast and have been snapped up by racers, newer ones are used as cheap runabouts, inbetween ones are (inexplicably) becoming collectors items.

well the one in the garage has got about 6k on it! I do recall my dad trying to get it going a few years ago but it kept backfiring apparently. I'll let him leave it there to become collectable i think....
