Well after having had a crappy Nitro helmet for a year and watched it fall apart i thought i'd have a look for a good quality helmet at a good price. This is what i got.........

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&item=120011052043&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Any good? I can't find it anywhere over the internet, but opinions gratefully recieved.

Good helmets but you don't know it's history and you don't know if it's the right size, so no, not really a good buy.

E-mailed him, it's spotless and never dropped/crashed. He sold his bike so doesn't need the helmet. If it doesn't fit, i'll sell it on.....still a crap buy?

I would never buy a second hand helmet, as has been said it won't mould to your head which will mean that if you were to have an accident it wouldn't do it's job. Plus the fact that there may be no cosmetic damage even if it has been dropped, you will never know until you need it. How much is your head worth? Karma

Mind you... after criticising your purchase, I'm still wearing a lid that I slid down the road on nearly 2 years ago. *Shrugs*

New lids are the only 'safe' way to go though.

Chances are it won't save your life as you've bought a helmet that's been bedding by someone else with unverifiable history.

Better off not wearing one imo.

Get yourself down to a shop, try them all on (ask the assistant to fit you for one) and spend a reasonable amount of money on something that fits good.

I'm lucky in that I fit AGV helmets, which come into my budget, got a fantastic Air Tech for £150.

leave him alone and take heart what siggi said , helmets are tough old things and the force required to really break em is so hard that you will not survive,

if Siggi is happy to paint and drill his lids , and go racing in them on the track or down some iffy Japanese roads and the fact that he has a helliuva lot to lose ($$$$ bike , family, etc) , speaks volumes.

just don;t over pay for 2nd handers, and try to get new.

Apart from when you hit something hard and it shatters around your head in several thousands pieces, it'll be a fairly big problem then, won't it?

How to buy a helmet.

Arrow Walk into a shop.
Arrow Try on different makes, sizes, models of helmet
Arrow Find one which suits you the best (ie: fits properly)
Arrow Either pay for said helmet there and then or..
Arrow Find brand new version on interwebnet for less cash and purchase there. (Not, BRAND NEW version)

Its the only major piece of safety wear that will protect you in an incident, surely buying one with an unknown history will set off warning flags in your head? Neutral

Yes, it speaks that he's a lunatic, but then, that's never really been in question, has it? Laughing Laughing Laughing Thumbs Up

Drilling them in certain places isn't much of an issue, race drivers have been doing that for years. Its the unknown history of a helmet that I reckon is the dodgiest part.

Yes, but you don't actually know if its been down the road or not.

You may well have paid 50 notes for something that's actually scrap... Exclamation Idea Confused

You may not have overpaid, if it actually fits you well and it hasn't ever been dropped. But are you willing to take that risk? I think you'd have had a much better buy if you'd spent £50 on a cheap, new helmet. Karma

only from a reputable dealer though a dealer round these parts had a whole shipment of helmets fall out the back of his van , he picked them up slapped a £10 discount off all of them , and CBTers rushed to buy his stock,

his bikes are crap too new bikes with 2000 miles on them and scratched to hell.
