Right, Iam about to do my CBT and wanted to know what people thought would be the best bike to have i only expect to have it for a year as by then i would like to have done the full licence. So anyway wanted to reach out to the world wide web and ask everyone what would be the best 125 to get, as iam 5'11 and dont really want to look like a lemon on a small, or thin bike, but i think iam right in saying that anything that looks big usually means it wont be a 125, so let me know Very Happy

He's a mate of mine so be nice!

He was looking at the CBR125, which is tiny, so I suggested the GT125R Hyosung or the Varadero, but these are both expensive bikes and he's looking for a cheapish 125 (around the £500 mark) to get to test level.

And don't say my CG, you bunch of smart arses Razz

Maybe a supermoto, I would say something like Kaben's MZ supermoto would be the best as it used to house lilredmachine and he is reported to be quite tall and built.

Or Toby's CG.

I was saying something like a DT125, I think it'd be a good bike for him.

I was saying the CBT/Insurance/125 is probably the same as doing DAS (He's been driving for 6 years) and getting a cheap big bike, as the insurance will be lower and he'd have a wider selection of cheap bikes.

Another option is to take advantaga of Honda's 125cc offer (Cg125, for £50 per month finance or Xl125v for £99)

See a supermoto or crosser seems to be the optimal bike to choose, but to be honest if he is that big maybe it would be worth buying a bigger bike (An ER-5 for example? Razz) and it will be cheaper insurance and cheaper to buy as you say.

As for getting a brand new CG125 I think it is a bad idea, I would rather him buy a second hand because the depreciation will shaft his wallet and give him a good old mammary punching.

Cheers for the help people now i think i have found the bike that i like a honda cbr125r now i thought it would be too small but got to see one over the weekend and it didnt look that bad now my next decision is to get it new or second hand, the problem is that i want to get it on a monthly payment or somthing like that. the issue i have now is if i get a new one i want to insure it, and i really should get it fully comp but the insurance quote i got was a wopping £1200 which i would rather not pay but the third party, fire and theft is only £360, dont understand that at all but any way what are peoples impressions? should i go for a nwe one or not and try anf find a 2nd hand one?

Do not, under any circumstances, buy a new CBR125, they depreciate like stink. You can pick up a relatively new one for about £1300 if you look around.

Go third party or third party fire and theft.

cheers for the advice didnt know they lost there worth so much, off to look at autotrader to see if any are for sale!!

Does any one else know where else to look for 2nd bikes or is autotrader my best option

Don't get fully Comp, it's not worth it on a 125, you'd lose more money if you claimed for a crash.

I really wouldn't go for TPFT either, for the same reasons.

I just bought TPO for £160 from Norwich Union with £100,000 legal and AA breakdown. (It basically covers costs of an accident that is your fault to the third party only)

Don't get a new one, it'll be worth fuck all once you turn the key.

A plus point is that you are unlikely to drop the bike from being cackhanded.
