On the way home tonight, filtered through lots of standing traffic to get to the front as usual. As i was pulling away a police bike swooped in behind me, i dont know where he had been because i didnt see him in my mirrors as i was stationary.
So we ride off through a section of road that used to be open but is now 40mph, i stick to the speed limit expecting him to ride past me on some important police business, but the bastard stays behind me. In fact he stays behind me, on the outside, all the way to the petrol station about 3 miles further on, where he finally turned off. WHICH IS WHEN I REALISED that he was just some prick on a white "Pan" with a white caberg helmet, black leathers, a yellow bib and red reflective chevrons on the front side and back of his panniers and the panels of his bike. Twisted Evil
Now why would you do that ?

To get more respect when riding? If people think you're a police bike you're going to take a fair bit less shit on the roads.

To make other road users think he's the old bill obviously and to make traffic move over for him and get out of the way.

He was most likely laughing to himself for the whole journey.

Look for blue lights above the mirrors next time.

Maybe he just wanted to be seen in the high vis vest and rides an ex patrol bike. I've seen plenty of tourer like bikes with coloured chevrons on them.

Maybe they didn't want to overtake you as they were turning off soon or they were on an unfamiliar road.

Sounds like a smart idea to dress like that.

it's because you are on a bike.

i can be pootling along but a lot of bikers will sit behind me as they probably think i will hoon it off if they try and go past me.

i wont do this of course.

sometimes i just want to cruise along

i seem to recall a story where there was someone who had a white pan european a white helmet and a hi viz jacket, was filtering through some very slow moving traffic and a guy in a open top using his mobile thought he was a copper and threw his mobile it into the road Laughing

There was a case some years back where someone was done for impersonating a police motorcyclist.
You get into a grey area when you start applying orange stripes (or not removing them from an ex-service bike) which resemble police markings - however most police bikes these days are using chequered style bands (I think).

Ask Danny! Laughing

He has a White BMW K75 with reflective yellow stripes and he wears a Yellow Hi-Viz.

I followed him home from work and cars give him respect.

One time he followed me from work and cars were falling over themselves to get out of my way cos it looked like I was being chased by a copper! Laughing

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Some shopping centres have bike patrols that look like the police also.
White Rose in Leeds for one.

There are also two bikes in macc that are white pan euro's with reflective stickers, white helmets and police looking boxes on the side, one of them told me I'd passed after driving out for an hour !

Driving test bikes look like cop bikes in almost every way but no blue lights (they have white strobes tucked away) and no wording on them.

Looks even better when they have the old service bikes!.

It's something we found when we did instructing, if your wearing dayglow bib, don't even need a white lid to make people look twice!.

Best one I've done is heading back from a construction site meeting down the M1, two of us in a BMW, in white shirts with dayglow's, watch them reps brake!lol Razz
