Manufacturer servicing...

My second service is due imminently my nearest dealer is rubbish and the next closest one is not very close. I've recently found somewhere close that services bikes and they do a bloody good job but i'm not sure if my warranty holds up if i get my bike serviced by someone who isn't one of the manufacturers dealers.

Does anyone know the score on this?

First thing to do is check what the warranty says.
It may say at a dealer or at an approved service centre.

You just then need to check what qualifications the guy doing the servicing has got. Has he been maufacturer trained or on one of their refresher courses. If so then you should be ok, but need to get it in writing from the manufacturer.

As an example a friend of mine's car franchise closed down, the nearest dealer being 30 odd miles away. He checked and a mechanic from the old dealer had set himself up. Got the warranty transfered ok as mechanic dealer trained.

FWIW I'd rather take a bike to this guy than to any of the main dealers.

Thanks map, i'll dig out the warranty booklet when i get chance and have a look.

I have a place within five minutes walk thats a family run business and gets glowing reports from the people i've met that have taken their bikes there. It'll be a shame if i can't throw some business his way
