Hi guys,
Im completely new to the bike world, but im really considering selling my car for £2k and doing my CBT and buying a CAGIVA MITO 125. thing is i love my car but i can get £2k off my mate. ideally i would like buy a cheap shit piece just to get around in for liek £500 leaving me with £1.5k for a MITO. i want one that is around 2002+ for that. is this possible?! also what kind of fuel consumption should i expect with one of these, along with running costs?!

Any responses would be greatly appreciated as i dont really know who i can ask because i havent got a clue??

Ta very much gents..and ladies Smile

Why do you want a fairly new one?

Don't think they changed much at all for many years.

I would look on condition rather than age, personally.

I just thought a new one wouldnt have as much go wrong with it hopefully and a warranty also sounds nice as i dont really know anyone who knows about bikes if it does go wrong. What bike would anyone advise i should look at?? considering i dont fancy a CG or anything like that lol i know im being fussy. is the MITO a good bike for a learner??

cheers guys Thumbs Up

P.s foun this pic on the net..looks the bollox and what i want!!lol

dont forget to budget for other things:

Bike
Insurance
Tax
CBT
Helmet
Other riding gear is important but not 100% essential in the early stages

The mito isn't an amazing bike to learn to ride to test standard on, no.

A well treated ten year old bike will be a much better buy than an abused three year old bike.

Warranty won't be more than two years as far as I know.
You can purchase an aftermarket warranty for a private sale bike or may well get one with a shop purchased bike if you like that.

If you do not want a CG or "anything like that" then the only options you have are two-stroke sports bikes. As another poster said, age has nothing to do with how well a bike has been maintained and with a mito that is all important. So I would suggest you read up and learn about what to check on a second hand bike (mito specific) or drag someone along with you who knows what they are talking about.

Thanks for the responses, mr jamez your right. Im 19 at the moment and dont really want to get a big/high powered bike yet as i just want something basic to learn on, sporty etc, but something nice that i'll enjoy for 2 years then i can move onto bigger and better things. I'm just too damn bloody IMPATIENT! but that's what i want to do.
does know anythign about the fuel economy/price of parts etc for a mito??

Many thanks Alex

Mito, good bike to learn on? Good god no. Fun, I can imagine but highly impractical if you want to commute on a budget and learn how to do u-turns and what not.

Yes, mito's looks bloody lovely but the price of parts and the wait associated with the parts is enough to put most off. Infact, I think that is what puts most people off.

One other thing: Don't rely on a sports' 125cc 2 stroke bike. They all break down eventually (some more than others) and cost a bomb to fix (a bomb = more than a learner would expect probably) There are better bikes out there to learn on and better bikes out there to get for your first bike. Didn't stop me wanting one though.

When i first started riding on the road i considered getting one but

A) im 6ft2 so abit small
B) not practical for commuting everyday
C) not really cost effective

Weigh it all up before you buy one

I have to disagree with the not fit for commuting part. I had mine for a long while and used it for work every day. Nothing went wrong with it all . As for easy to ride? Maybe not as your first bike. But i can tell you one thing, they are FUN ! Very Happy Twisted Evil

i completely agree with keir_K3. i am currently riding a NSR125. great to start off with but with small power band and maintenance troubles im now looking for a bigger bike, maybe 400 which will be more stable and not needing to rev the nuts off it to get it to move.

A Mito for a grand or £1500 for a 2001+ model would be a disaster! A mint mid 90's Mito can easily fetch a grand, and they are as has been said many times before, not a bike for people on a limited budget! Others have already found that out, and you need to budget for expensive preventative maintainece to run a Mito long term or any other high performance 2 stroke bike for that matter!
