PostPosted: 07:52 - 13 Jul 2006    Post subject: My first Bike - Yamaha Thundercat Reply with quote

Hi all,

Some may remember me from when I posted a while back asking advice etc...

Well after much deliberation I went out and bought my first bike, a Yamaha Thundercat In blue with 7.5K on the clock. 2 Owners and in mint condition.

I've added a photo for you all to see (sorry about the poor quality, camera phone).

Let me know what you think.

Double Bubble should come today and i'm debating a can.... anyone any advice on cans for cats?

Thanks

Andy

p.s. I will add some proper photo's soon!

Mr. Green They rock, and that's a nice one.

I have an Arrow can on mine and it sounds like a total bitch, but there are plenty out there. If/when I get a new one, I'm thinking of a Yoshimura. Thumbs Up

Cats are great bikes, and yes very underated. The engine has more mid range punch than most 600's have even by todays standards and can still punch at top end. handling is great and you can't ask for much more on a normal road comfy and sporty enough for those twisties.
I can quite easily keep up and stay ahead of my mates on R6's and 636's so don't just look at the cat as a beginners bike cos it ain't they are just fairly forgiving.
Here is mine with a quicks racing Can on, sounds great and only cost £105 brand new.

Nice Bike Paul!

I've just fitted a double bubble in dark tint to mine and what a difference it makes!!! Lack of wind noise is incredible!

Did you buy the quicks online? Sounds a reasonable price!

** Also - Does the link pipe come with the can ?

a quick tip from my mechanic.

use an airline to blast around the ht leads before removing the plugs as a lot of tiny stones collect round there due to the engine design.

i made the mistake of thinking you can get to the plugs by removing the tank and then the airbox.

oh no you have to get at the plugs from the side of the bike.

Thanks for that tip.

I have just had the bike serviced at my local Yamaha dealer and I got them to replace th plugs too.... apparently its a radiator forward job.

Total bill was £190 inc Oil, Oil Filter, Rear Brake Pads and 4 NGK Plugs + 3hrs labour (@£35/hr)

I was happy to pay that knowing the work has been done properly (the dealer I took it to has good reputation).

Bonus as well Is I am more happy working on cars knowing where bits are than bikes.... I'm sure i'll learn though over time.
