I have an Ebay bill for £50, I'm refusing to pay it because it's just ridiculously extortionate!

They're going to send my bill to a debt collector apparently. Does anyone have experience with this? does anyone actually come knocking? or do they just send letters every week?

Cheers!

Not worth it for £50, plus it's not like they just stole it, you agreed to pay it when you listed those items.

If they send it to a debt collector an extra £10 will be slapped on top, and they'll start threatening legal action. When it happened to me we got about 3 calls within 4 hours, even at times like 9pm. I paid it quickly...

No I didnt, they hid them from me in the small print. I'd also like to point out it is a bill for selling 1 item.

I also havnt mentioned the £18 which paypal stole from me.

I'm gonna call watchdog!

So this must have been a pretty expensive item to list, I make that about £524, judging by your PayPal fees.

How does it come to £50 owed to eBay, if it was a fairly standard listing the eBay fees altogether shouldn't be more than £16-£17.

Just had a quick look and seems like a cock up on their part then...

Fees info here

Quote:
Reserve Fees (refunded if item sells):...£50.00 - £4,999.99 2% of the reserve price..

So 2% of £1000 = £20, which as the item didn't sell is payable. Plus the insertion fee £2.

For a £500 item £2 insertion fee + 5.25% of the initial £29.99 (£1.57), plus 3.25% of the remaining closing value balance (IMO that sounds complicated). So that's 3.25% of (500.00 - 29.99) = £15.28+£1.57 = £16.85 Confused

This isn't counting any extras for pictures, listing upgrades and the like.

If that's an example of how to work out the fees it's putting me off selling stuff Rolling Eyes

They charge for reserves, which sucks, but it's been that way for ages.

I sold a harmonia for £350 last week, and paid fees accordigly.

I don't think you've got a leg to stand on. In my opinion, Pay-Pal sucks. I'd urge everyone to sit down with a cup of tea and read the agreement in it's entirety, and compare what it says, to what you'd expect from a bank or credit card etc. I do use it, still, albeit grudgingly.

It is certainly true that they do screw up their invoicing from time to time, and trying to resolve those problems are a pain in the arse too. One normally gets just a copy/paste answer which does not adress the problems incurred.

But, as I've said before, for me, the real pit-fall is Pay-Pal. I won't accept it at all, on expensive items, but do put up with using it for general stuff.

I joined eBay when l was 15 so the contract was made when l was too young to be in a legally binding contract so can l get away with not paying fees even though i,m almost 20 now?

Hence why I always put on the bottom of my auctions:

"I do not condone selling items behind ebays back and will not accept buy it now offers to end the auction early....*wink wink....*keeps an eye on email....Wink"

I do whatever I can to end my auctions early. Too many times I've had monthly fees hitting £60. Mad And I never put on a silly reserve. Just buy it now or put it up at the minimum price you're willing to accept.

My last 8 weeks (i think)
The way they bill you is shocking, its not clear at all. One minute you owe nothing, sell a few things then it shoots up to £40-£50.

I've also had ebay knocking on my door before, acutally it was a debt collection agency.

And wether people think I've got a leg to stand on or not, ebays fees are extortionate.

Paypal (owned by ebay i think) is also a waste of money. I paid £18 to receive by paypal, only to be told I have to wait 5 days for it to clear! FFS I could have just got a cheque off the guy and it would cost me nothing!

You pay a price for using paypal, suppposedly for "convenience" but as you said it doesn't always work out that way.

eBay are so money hungry they dont care about anything as long as profits continue to go up. Thumbs Down

Ebay and paypal is expensive, but if you can point out where else I'm going to get that sort of exposure to sell my items, or where else I can accept payment so quickly and easily, let me know.

As for complaining about a reserve, I'm pretty sure that when you are writing the description theres a bit next to the reserve box saying how much it costs to have a reserve, and when you list it tells you how much it all costs before you click on list.

You accepted the charges, so you can choose to either pay the 50 quid and have no more hassle, or you can get endless hassle out of ebay for it.

I owed then 60 odd quid. Never paid it, had a few letters - nothing else heard.
Im having the same trouble also.
Twice my camara sold for 175 quid. Both fake buyers.
Thats 5 quid to put on plus around 3 quid for selling it.
I had the fees paid back to me, so I thought.
I then sold a PS2 for 80 quid.
Now I have a bill for 28 pounds...But what for?
I never sold my cam, I sold 1 item. am I fook paying 28 quid for selling that.
It dosnt make sence.
Ebay winds me up so much, same with paypal taking money from you.

I had one of them threating emails from them after paying my fee's through paypal they said that i'd only paid £23 and still owed them £2.37 which was all paid in one go(£25.37). I sent them the paypal transaction numbers 3 times and a copy of the invoice twice and they still tried it on. I wonder how many people have just thought it's only a few quid and sent it on again.
