I have just had my first off as a biker

Kind of had an awful lot of hot weather in this part of the country and today for the first time it rained.

A warm road with water on it isn't good.
Luckily i had all prtective gear on bar gloves. Cut me thumb open a bit but its a lesson well learnt. Was just nipping to the 'chippy' had to go round this roundabout. I took it really slow considerin the weather. I could feel the back and front end slipping all the way around, when i came to change direction to turn off........that was it i was lookin at the sky. Only a little scratch on a footrest for the pillion.

Luckily no big bill and a lesson well learnt.

Agree, unless tyres are bald you only need watch out for paint and metal covers especially.
Obviously go slower, but in Winter the roads are *usually* wet.

Something on the road? Diesel?

It shouldn't be slipping like that.

i dont think there was. I wasn't going quick. Just a wet road i think. Its a fairly busy roundabout not too busy at the time fortunately.

Tyres are virtually brand new but after tonight i may invest in some more grippy ones. I was lloking at them they look like slicks but they have grip on them if you get me??

Nah, there's all manner of oily crap that gets dumped on the road during the normal course of things but it gets pushed down into the road surface.

If there's been no rain for a while then it all floats up to the surface (oil floats on water) and forms a thin film of slippery, greasy shite and the road gets slippery as hell.

I was thinking of something like that. I just didn't know how to word it but 'a thin film of slippery, greasy shite' kind of says it all. Laughing

I hate riding when it first starts raining after a really dry spell, especially if it's just drizzling. I find it safer riding in very heavy rain because most of the slippery muck has been washed away.

we were in the works van coming back from a job today.

and it was slipping out on roundabouts after the rain today.

oil that has been brought to the surface by the rain.

At least nothing hit you, and you werent going too fast...and to make you feel better everyone hates the first bit of wet on the roads - its makes it like a skid pan...and its only minor damage to the bike!

oh any to you too..... Laughing
