You can set most of them up to 'exclusive' so only emails from addresses that are in your address book hit your inbox.

You certainly can with hotmail.

IMO Hotmail tends to attract tons of dodgy spam messages, even WITH the filters.

I've hadd better experiences with Yahoo, and particularly with ISP email Wink

If it was me, I would probably set it to a really strict email filter which only allows emails from addresses in her address book.

Set it to bounce anything else to your own inbox, you can forward it back to her if it is ok (it will then get through because it is from you) and add the address to her book as necessary.

I am not all that familiar with outlook but I would think you should be able to do this. You should be able to set gmail to work via outlook.

At the age of five, I would imagine it would be best to supervise her at all times on the internet anyway. If you are going to let her have access to the computer unsupervised, I would really recommend buying one of the kiddies security programmes (don't know which is best).

A friend of mine has a thing like that, it has a list of approved websites and domains, attempts to access anything not on the list triggers an email to his account and he can decide if they are allowed access to it or not. You can back the security off as she gets older and more streetwise.

Hi. I set my son up with a yahookids account when he was 4 so his Grandma could send him emails with smiley faces in it.

He gets no spam at all since it's a kids account. He can also use it to log into and play online games at yahookids. There's no chatting allowed in that section of the games, and each user gets a generic identity, so I consider it pretty safe in that anyone he plays chess with can't discover his real name, his age, or any details about him.

How that he's old enough to read and write, he uses his email account more frequently. I'd go with Yahookids.
