and havnt a notion as i have only seen the red labelled bottle of smirnoff. wasnt aware there was more than one colour. must be cause am norn iron. |
Smirnoff is distilled from grain. originally from rye, but more common now is the use of wheat. I didn't think there was any gluten left after the dilstillation process, though. Isn't that what most wheat allergies are? An allergy to the gluten?

For potato vodkas, I'd look for : Teton Glacier, Blue Ice, Lukusowa or Pole Star. The Teton Glacier and Blue Ice might be hard for you to find over there since they're American labels, but the Lukusowa and Pole Star are Polish, so might be more readily available.
The labels just signify the variance in proof. Red Label is 75-80 proof, Blue is 100 proof. I couldn't find any info on a black label. Ther's a Silver which is about 90 proof, and a Norsk, which is 80.

edit: now I know why I couldn't find any info on Black label: I was looking at the American site. Apparently when I switch to UK, the black label is 80 proof. We get a whole lot more smirnoff stuff over here, apparently, but not the black for some reason.
