Final Cut Pro, Avid DV, Sony Vegas... the list goes on but those three are about the best options!

Pinnacle Studio's good if you want something simple, but not as lame as Windows Movie Maker.

Adobe Premiere is in my professional opinion by far the most professional piece of video editing software out there. Anything else is simply bloated or dumbed down, but premiere retains that video editing feeling and works brilliantly with photoshop and after fx.

If its just for something simple though then ask the civilians and not us media professionals Wink Laughing

Wotcha.

I think you mean
"Pinnacle Studio's good if it works"
The earlier versions work better than the late ones.
I gave up with version(s) nine plus and ten.

I use Ulead Studio now - a bit fiddly, but not so bad once you get used to it . . . . a shame really, 'cos Pinnacle was so user-friendly, just a pity it didn't do what it was supposed to.

Damn right. Lots of swearing with the later versions, earlier ones were great.

ROFL, The words 'Adobe Premiere' and 'professional' used in the same sentence. That's the funniest thing I have read in years!! Laughing

Although I must admit with Premiere Pro, they are actually starting to make an effort in producing something that resembles a professional product.

Fuck off, Adobe makes some of the best graphics and media software on the market. They let slip with the video export options for a while but its still a fucking good editing package. I've used it for everything from hooking up to a video editing suite and editing actualy video tapes to doing final edits of 3D animations for clients and its always worked.

I'll admit, premier pro has the most friendly and useable gui, but in terms of features when linking to hardware-based side of things (PCIFX Engines etc) it can be a git in comparison to quite a few others.

Out of the "suitable for avg joe use" software, i'd rank it the highest... but for professional stuff, I'd still prefer a hardware-based solution with matched software such as Avid Media Composer, however, I think the OP was asking more in a titting-about-with-video-editing capacity rather than professional use, so Premier Pro would still stand as my recommendation.

Premier Pro still bugs me when handling PAL and NTSC sources in one project tho...

Yep there is no doubt that Adobe do make some fantastic software, Photoshop, After Effects etc etc are excellent pieces of software, but Premiere really was not up to the required standard for a professional piece of kit. On paper it sounded great but in real life it just didn't work properly. As I said earlier, Premiere Pro has made a big difference, and is MUCH better, but I still wouldn't recommend it to someone as it just isn't user friendly enough.

There is nobody in the professional editing field that would use Premiere as their main piece of editing software. It's just not good enough!!

I'm glad that you have had some success with it but there are some much better pieces of software out there!!
