 |
|
i have recently bought an rx50 2nd hand. the v5 says it is a 70cc, but the barrel in the engine says it is a 50cc.
due to me being 16 i cannot insure the bike as being a 70cc. but i have been told by bike shops that if it says 49cm cubed its a 50cc engine.
should i tell the dvla it is a 50cc or what should i do.
thanks skelly. ____________________ k.skelly....aprilia RX50 (stolen) | fzr 400 1988. restricted | Bandit 600 | Gsxr 750 SRAD, 1999. |

Did you not look at the V5 before you bought the bike?

Its probably that the RX has had the millosi 70cc barrell and piston kit fitted sometime in the past. And its either been used to much it needed replacing or it seized or otherwise buggered up with the strain. If it says 50cc on the barrell, and its 70cc on the V5, change the V5, what top speed are you getting out of it? ____________________ Will work for petrol

WTF so I can buy a 2.0 civic and tell the DVLA "OMG LOOK IT IS WRONG IT SAYS 2.0, ITS REALLY A 1.5!!!! CHANGE IT PLEASE!"
then get insured on it ____________________ Present: GS650 Katana - Getting ready for summer touring!

With an insurance certificate (valid or not due to engine size is irrelevant) he can aquire a tax disc, the lack of this may well lead to the discovery of his engine untruths, due to a police officer noticing, or even an inadvertant inspection by a traffic warden.
A slight help to his cause, though long winded with the DVLA and just the whole "Oh shit a copper oh fuck i'm going to be shafted for this engine" malarkey.
I do not condone people using ways around the road to valid insurance. my bike, and everything about it is legal, reasons for this are I hate the idea of people riding/driving without insurance for one fact and one fact only, if they have an accident with me, not a penny do I receive in the event of their liability without personally extracting it from them.
If you do choose to go uninsured, hence unlicenced, you are a cunt.
Similar to the principles of continuously leeching of others' fags, if you can't afford to smoke, don't smoke.
So I do what is my part in keeping these circumstances from arising. ____________________ "Do what you always did, get what you always got" |

i know so many ppl and my self that have fitted a 70 kit to a 50 and no one has changed there log book to a 70cc well no one i know anyway. the point i am trying 2 make is its very rare for people to change there log books to a 70cc as mainly its 16 year olds that convert them to a 70cc . if they send u the log book back again saying they cant accept the change just go to your local shop and get them to make u a recipt or somethink saying its a 50cc and not a 70cc.
thanks |

Hey skelly, im the bloke who sold you the RX. The guy i bought it off had it classed as 70cc (he was 17) due to the 70cc jack-up kit but the engine clearly states "50cc" which my dad's mate (who is a copper) said this makes it perfectly legal to ride as a 50cc. Everyone on this forum seems to think that de-restricting your bike void's the insurance. This is total b*llocks, its not true at all. When i had that bump with the range rover, they paid out no problem even though I was (technically) not legal to ride. My advice is send off for new forms with a 50cc class and you'll be laughing. I myself couldn't be arsed waiting for the papers to clear so i registered it in my dad's name and insured it in mine. Either way, you will be able to ride. You will have to wait a bit for the papers to clear but until then just whizz up and down the road
Best of luck mate, if you need any more assistance - just give me a knock. |
