Hi,

I currently travel to work each day with a rucksack on my back with a change of clothes, some lunch etc.

I am looking for a cheap solution so that I can get the rucksack off my back (especially uncomfortable when it is warm).

I don't want to go down the route of panniers or other costly solution, as I may be changing my bike in the near future and wondered if there was any other options, even something simple that would hold the rucksack onto the pillon seat.

Anyone got any ideas

Thanks
Jazz

Get a cargo net, I use one to put my ruck sack on the passenger seat. Ideal for trips with no passenger.

An example of one here

Depending on how much you take - get a tank bag.

Sits on your tank permanently, no hassle. Just stick the damn thing on and unzip it. Throw in what you want and your sorted.

Advantages of a tank bag - doesnt require fitting and hassle stretching things over and hurting your hands every time you leave. You dont have to undo 20minutes of hard bungee'ing to get to your wallet that you left at the bottom by accident.

Obvious disadvantages are that they can clash with your elbows from time to time when fully expanded etc, but barely. Also mine has been known to blip my horn or flick my indicators when im making a tight turn Wink But its bloody usefull!

Mine has been on my bike since erm, like august time last year! Thumbs Up

Plus a tank bag will fit on any bike providing it has a metal tank.

Or you go down the road which I've done and get a tank cover, and a tank bag that clips into it.

Most 'soft' luggage will fit on pretty much any bike.

Can probably get it cheap on ebay.

i've got a tailpack. tankbag was too intrusive for my liking and throwovers arn't my style. Short of that - what Marah said - a cargo net does wonders for a fiver.

Check this out for a seriously good deal

Here's an idea that very few people seem to understand.

Go to Ebay

Find a cheap, renntec rack that fits your bike. Snipe the auction and get it for roughly £20-30

Find cheap topbox (preferably local) They cost maybe £20, used or even new.

Fix topbox to renntec rack.

Hey presto. You have something to hold all of your luggage, it's 100% waterproof and there's a smaller risk of damage incase you come off your bike, compared to, soft luggage. Also you can leave it on the bike - No hiking about with daft soft panniers.

Then when you change bikes? OMG! Try sticking them on ebay and losing £0 on them!!! Surprised Surprised Surprised

As no-one wants to buy used soft panniers...who knows whats been inside them... Sick

I bought a tank bag that doubles up as a rear pack as well with a few bungee cords so I can attatch it to the tank, the pillion position or on the rear rack (when the hard box is not on). Lots of space in it but I only expand it when parked up as it's too big other wise (25 to 40 Lit.) to see my clocks over it.. Smile

Wasn't "cheap" but not too expensive either.

Had them all, panniers a far the best but costly, tank bag gets in the way tail pack or racks spoil the look of the bike (IMO). Cheapest by far is the cargo net, it will hold anything from plastic bags to a helmet with no worries of it falling off. Cheap as chips too. Wink
