The last guy is what we call in the trade a Gibbon. Called so as he's hanging off like one in an attempt to get his down.

Or doing it in such a way that he is less likely to fall off.

Its also classed as the "proper" way to do it.

Is it? Looks a bit lame to me when doing it like that.... almost as if knee down is a 'be-all-and-end' all of biking to you...... when in reality knee down is just a by-product of high speed cornering. A true knee down is one where you just have to stick your knee out and it will make contact, not hang off in an attempt to do it. In short if you are having to hang off, you are not leaning the bike over enough - go faster/tighter!

Maybe he's doing it for the camera and not actually attempting to go fast around the roundabout to create a byproduct and wants to have fun and show off, why does this mean its the be all and end all?

No, it isn't. It is only cranked over at the apex of the corner, everywhere else it is as upright as possible, to get the fattest part of the tyre in contact for braking and accelerating. Hence the reason they hang off going into and out of corners, and try not to let the bike get too low.

Exactly what many people think when they see people getting their knee down without shifting their weight off the seat.
Looks like they're sticking their knee out for the sake of the picture rather than because it might be a useful cornering tool.

Incidentally, shifting your arse over can actually make it harder to get your knee down for some people - ie if you've got longish legs etc, but should make the bike corner better.
