ok so a few hours ago I was sitting at work pissin and moaning about the weather outside. Was nice and sunny when I left home today at 1300 but when its time to leave at 2100 it starts to rain.
No biggie happy to ride in the rain but would still like to poke murphy in the nose for his troubles.

Anyway when someone kindly mentions that its pourin out and that Im gonna get all wet on the bike a near by worker asks me if I mean motor bike.

Of course I answer yes.
At this point she starts to share the tale of her BF's friend who had an accident on one and pretty much had the skin ripped off his leg like a glove. That and other nasty details.

I got to thinking that when ever someone finds out I ride they always have some shitty accident story that they feel the need to share.

Im not easily bothered by this stuff and its more of an interest to me than anything else.
Im aware of the risks but don't really need to here about every god awfull event that involves a rider being dismembered.

Just a little consideration would be nice is all.

Ask if they drive a or be a passneger in a car - then tell them a horrendous story where someone was trapped in a car.

Though people do tend to get a bit annoyed when I start ranting at them after they've told me how dangerous bikes are Smile.

I've had that happen as well and i'm pretty much of the same opinion, i listen politely and nod or grimace at the right bits but i don't really want to hear it Neutral

Still not nice though but he was a biker and would understand.

Here here, I know what you mean its not nice to hear these horror stories just before you go out for a ride. It doesn't really bother me as like you I find it interesting as to why they came off just so I can bear it in mind.

What annoys me is when people keep saying "Why don't you just get a car". Que me going into sore mode while still trying to show the face of someone who really gives a crap. Plus the joy that some people get in saying "ooh your going to get wet on your way home tonight", oh well then I'll soon dry off won't I.

Phew! (didn't realise I typed so much)

"You're going to get wet going home on the bike."

"Yeah, but by the time you get home in your car, I'll be dried off and cracking open my second beer."

everyone does that when they see a bike i know. especially when i am on it. first thing they say is "thats very dangerous" before breaking out into a story.

i was waiting for my mate having a smoke in hospital one day in the smoke section and this guy came up and asked about my bike then he went in to how much he hated bikers and got quite vocal on this point. i just stood there with feg hanging out of mouth nodding.

It would have been too tempting to "Pardon?"...

.."I heard you the first time!"

him. That usually gets the desired response.

He's probably not anti bike, just the local mental case, who comes up
with shxt every time he opens his mouth.

Don't take any notice of people like that.

"you're going to get wet on your bike"

*cue me walking out with textiles, lid and gloves on*

"you get wetter than me walking to your car than I do on a 20 mile ride"

By the way, the most off putting thing to me is piling into a long bend, to see flowers on the opposite site halfway through.

I tend to find that when people say bikes are more dangerous cars, that if i tell them cars kill more children than motorbikes do, they tend to shut up.

"Yeah and the bastard went past me in a traffic jam! I was already annoyed after paying to have my mirror fixed after another of the gits kicked it off, because he didn't know that cars are bigger and therefore have right of way at junctions! So I got out and pushed the wanker off his stupid machine..." *SMACK!*

I normally wait for the person telling me how their brother got killed on a bike and then tell them that my grandad died whilst cleaning his windows (fell off a balcony) but I still clean my windows.

People die, it's what happens, doesn;t mean we all have to live our lives wrapped in cotton wool. Even if we did, I'm sure people would die from choking on cotton wool Mr. Green

Cheers

I can usually manage to trump their story with anything from recent middle-east headlines and suggest they start banning mosques, synagogues and churches before they start banning bikes.

They rarely have an response to that. Thumbs Up

i usually get this every monday morning

they love to tell me how a biker died at the weekend and how his head fell off (even though they were still alive when they got to the hospital).

i just say cool and ask them if it had anything to do with them riding at 80mph in a 30mph built up area.
