Anyone know if these are just Gatso's or do they measure your speed over the distance? According to my Roadangel thats what they are but they just look like Gatso's to me but all the cars go slow through there - anyone know for sure?

A quick google reveals that there are SPECS cameras there. They measure average speed.

no way! i regulary cane the tits of my bike through there and slow down for the cameras. i just love the tunnel noise! no snaps have been sent through so far and there are lines on the road like the gatsos have. maybe the specs are on their way?

This is the thing - they dont look like SPECS cameras do they but when I go through in my car the Roadangel says they are SPECS? On each set of lines theres a camera that looks directly down on you and one that would take a pic of the back of you - I didnt think the SPECS cameras would use the lines like Gatso's do.

They look like cameras I've never seen before - I reckon their just a type of Gatso though, annoying cos I dont wanna do 30mph all the way through it and dont want to chance it Laughing

Also against the average speed theory would be the speed I've seen some bikes go through at between cameras vs. the 1st camera going off with a car going though at only about 35!

Hi,
I recall reading in a technical journal that special cameras had to be developed for this tunnel because standard Gatso's would not work. The radar beams bounced around off the tunnel walls.
Because of the road lines therefore, I GUESS, that the cameras work on the Gatso principal and are not Specs. The evidence of other posts supports this. If I come across the article again I'll post again with more detail.

I go through the tunnel everyday and have done for the last three years. The cameras are not SPECS. I repeat, they are not SPECS.

So relax.

The only locations of these cameras in London is Lower Thames Street and Tower Bridge (afaik).
